Dark past of young woman shot in the back while helping someone move house comes to light as she fights for life in hospital and cops hunt for mystery man who fled the scene

The woman was shot in the back while helping someone move, was in prison for a series of offenses and had only appeared in court days before the incident.

Linley Anne Anyos, 33, was sitting in a blue Volkswagen Jetta outside a house on Trees Road in Tallebudgera, on the Gold Coast, when she was shot about noon on Wednesday.

Police believe the shot was fired from the backseat of the car, possibly by a man known to Ms Anyos.

The search for the suspected shooter and the weapon was ongoing Thursday evening.

Detectives have not ruled out that the shooting was an accident.

Ms Anyos remains in a critical condition at Gold Coast University Hospital.

It can now be revealed that Ms Anyos was previously involved in another incident involving a firearm.

She was arrested in August 2020 after a loaded gun was reportedly discovered in her car following a road rage incident in Carbrook, south Brisbane.

She was initially charged with a range of offenses including knowingly endangering the safety of a person in a vehicle, possessing a Schedule 1 dangerous drug in an amount exceeding a Schedule 3 quantity, possessing in public possession of a short firearm loaded with Category D/H/R, and breach of bail.

Prior to the incident, she was charged with supplying cocaine Courier MaiI reported it at the time.

A victim impact statement claimed they were “struck (by a vehicle) without headlights,” a gun was fired and Ms Anyos exited a vehicle while holding a bat.

However, both the involvement of a bat and the firing of a gun were later refuted.

It was also later proven that Ms Anyos was not behind the wheel of the car.

Ms Anyos was arrested again in January 2023 after allegedly throwing a syringe filled with gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) into a bush while fleeing from police.

Her lawyer, Lisa Searing, told the court that Ms Anyos had fallen into the wrong group after a difficult childhood, but was determined to turn her life around by taking up an apprenticeship later that year.

“Her grandparents love her, her family love her, but she’s had some problems,” Mrs Searing said. News Corp reported.

‘That led to her using drugs and mainly dating the wrong men, which unfortunately had a quite negative impact on probably the last five years of her life.

“She’s normally someone who’s held in high esteem.”

Ms Anyos was sentenced to three months in prison after pleading guilty to one count of possessing dangerous drugs and failing to appear.

She was also produced before the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday (January 6) on unknown charges.

On Thursday, she remained on a ventilator in the intensive care unit while her family kept a night vigil Gold Coast Bulletin reported.

Police and forensic investigators remained at the crime scene on Thursday.

No arrests or charges have been filed and the firearm used has yet to be located by police.

It is understood Mrs. Anyos belonged to a group of people who were helping someone move at that time.

“It is my understanding that the car has been parked in the same spot for a number of hours,” Detective Mark Mooney told reporters on Wednesday.

“We have called in the homicide squad because the victim’s injuries are critical and we don’t know at this point if she will survive or not.”

Before the shooting, dozens of people had gone to the house to pick up free furniture advertised on Facebook Marketplace.

At least ten people helped the police in their investigation on Wednesday.

“Everyone has been very compliant at this point,” Detective Mooney said.

“Eight to 10 people went back to one of our stations to make statements.

“We’re also hunting for people who have been here before, people who may have seen or heard something, or spoken to certain individuals while they were here, or who had video or CCTV cameras.”

It is believed there was another person in the Volkswagen Jetta at the time of the shooting.

“Our forensic examination of the vehicle is still ongoing,” Inspector Mooney said.

“It appears the victim may have been sitting in the passenger seat of the vehicle and was shot through the seat.

‘I understand the car has been parked in the same spot for a few hours.

“She arrived on scene with some of our witnesses who were helping (people) move.”

Police has called on all witnesses who left the scene before the arrival of the officers to come forward.

“We would like to speak to anyone who was present to provide us with any information we do not yet have,” Inspector Mooney said.

‘It will be a complex investigation.’

He emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the population.

‘I don’t think there is any need to alarm the community about this. At this time, the exact occurrence of what happened is unknown to us. We obviously encourage our community to remain vigilant,” Inspector Mooney said.
