An armed man has been shot by police after he ‘advanced’ on officers conducting a welfare check at a home on the Gold Coast.

Members from Queensland Police were attending a home on Bellagio Crescent in Coomera at 3:20pm on Sunday afternoon undertaking a customary check on residents when they were confronted by a man.

The man, believed to be aged in his 40s allegedly lunged at officers with a blade, with an officer firing their gun.

A spokesperson for QLD Police said the man ‘advanced’ on enforcement before he was shot. 

He has been taken to Gold Coast University Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.
