The Wild Schoolies’ Drug Trend That Every Parent Should Know About — As School Dropouts Expose What Really Happens During Year-End Celebrations

  • School students have turned down offers of free drugs while partying on the Gold Coast
  • They offered drugs everywhere, from their hotels and clubs to the street
  • Police praised the behavior of 18,000 students during the first week of celebrations
  • Hundreds of school leavers from Victoria and NSW have arrived for the second week

Students say they are offered free drugs on the streets and at the nightly beach parties on the Gold Coast.

Thousands of school leavers have gathered in Surfers Paradise for the biggest Schoolies party on the glitter strip since pre-Covid 2019.

While Schoolies’ TikTok videos showing large quantities of empty liquor bottles in hotel rooms have some parents concerned, the trend of free drugs is a concern.

“Some guy came up to me and said ‘do you want some ‘hats,” a school dropout told Seven News.

“He looked pretty hammered. He gave them to me and I held them until the end of the night and then threw them away.’

His friend added, “No, no drugs for me. Not at all.’

One group claimed drugs were offered everywhere, including at least twice at the beach party.

“Everywhere from the hotel to the clubs, the street, the bathrooms and the beach party,” they said.

Queensland Police said they had not received any reports of drugs within the official Schoolies beach precinct.

Police and local business owners said this year’s Schoolies were generally well-behaved compared to previous years as the celebrations enter a second week.

Police made 165 arrests during the first week of festivities, but fewer than a third were Schoolies.

Hand-held metal detection rods scanned 918 revelers, resulting in 32 arrests, mostly for bail violations and drug charges.

Over 25,000 Schoolies will flock to the Gold Coast this year for the three week celebrations.

About 18,000 school leavers visited the Surfers Paradise hub in week one, the vast majority of them from Queensland.

The party center welcomed its second batch of school leavers from NSW and Victoria this weekend.

Police focus this week will be on pubs and clubs, as most high school students are over the age of 18.

‘[Police will be] identifying those who are intoxicated might come out of the property to do the pre-loading,” said Acting Superintendent Rhys Wildman.

“So we can do that early intervention and prevent them from actually harming themselves or causing problems at the police station.”

Earlier this week, a sordid school checklist aimed at teen partygoers appeared online, sparking outrage and concern among parents.

It outlined 10 challenges for boys in attendance, including a variety of sexually explicit acts, sexual assault, and drug use.

The first item on his list is “drawing a line on a bitch’s ass.” Drawing a line is a reference to snorting cocaine or amphetamine.

Thousands of other school leavers have left for Byron Bay, the Sunshine Coast, Airlie Beach and Lorne and even further afield to Fiji and Bali.
