Gold Coast mansion that once hosted parties for The Rolling Stones and Whitney Houston fails to sell at eye-watering price

A palatial Queensland mansion that was once home to superstars The Rolling Stones and Frank Sinatra has failed to find a buyer.

The extravagant Gold Coast waterfront estate called ‘Bartinon’, with seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms, was auctioned for $17 million.

Located in upscale Sorento, the grand trophy home was known for attracting a long line of A-list guests, including Whitney Houston.

It was built in the 1980s and was once the most expensive property ever built on the Gold Coast The courier post on Wednesday.

The original owners’ businessman Sir Justin Hickey and his wife Lady Barbara Hickey developed a reputation for throwing lavish parties on the property.

According to the publication, there were only six bidders for the killer spread, which last sold for $7.22 million in 2014.

Located on the Nerang River, just minutes from the CBD, the 6,500 square meter ‘Mediterranean-inspired’ property has an entire wing dedicated to a ‘wellness centre’.

Other highlights include a games room, three bars and a master retreat.

There is also a swimming pool, a tennis court and a garage that can accommodate up to eight cars.

It also has a boat ramp, shed and private pontoon.

The home is designed with lavish finishes, including Italian marble and granite, and is built of ‘resort style’ sandstone.

A dramatic double staircase with balcony welcomes guests at the entrance.

The mansion also features extra large living areas, Dutch canopy awnings, curved windows with black frames.

Other features include floor-to-ceiling French doors, extensive tropical grounds and a covered entertainment sector with built-in barbecue.

Another highlight is a formal living room with sunken lounge and fireplace.

Meanwhile, there is also a cellar, an infrared sauna and a marble spa bath, while each of the bedrooms boasts a wrap-around balcony.

Property records show that the house has been auctioned five times since it was built in the 1980s.

It was first sold for $4.25 million in 2001 and was bought again in 2006 for $6.665 million. In 2009, it sold again for $8 million, before declining in value from its 2014 sale.
