Gogglebox star Daniel Lustig Webb gives health update on husband Stephen following nasty Dancing On Ice injury which led him to quit show

Gogglebox star Daniel Lustig Webb has given fans a health update on his husband Stephen following his nasty injury on Dancing On Ice – which forced him to quit the show.

Stephen, 52, had a freak accident during training before being told by medics that he had broken his left ankle and would be on crutches for the next three months – MailOnline exclusively revealed in October.

But his hairdresser husband, 43, ultimately delighted fans with positive news: The sun revealed.

“Stephen is doing well, he's got his cast off and he's got a boot on for the next six weeks and then he'll be back at it, he's very excited,” he said.

Daniel added that he got to become “his nurse” and Stephen “loves it.”

Stephen, 52, suffered a freak accident during training before being told by doctors he had broken his left ankle and would have to be on crutches for the next three months.

The hairdresser explained that all the household chores suddenly fell on his shoulders, including walking the dog, caring for his husband and juggling work in the salons.

He said: 'He broke his ankle in two places, he was devastated from Dancing On Ice, he was so excited.

“We've got some other things happening next year that he's really excited about and hopefully we'll have some things together and some things separately – it could possibly be more reality work,” Daniel teased.

But despite Stephen's injury, it seems the reality star is still considering a return to Dancing On Ice, as Daniel revealed the accident didn't 'deter' him.

Sharing an update on Instagram earlier in October, Stephen revealed he had to undergo surgery and was 'gutted' to be out of the competition.

Smiling for a photo next to his dogs, the TV personality could be seen with his foot in a cast and leaning on a pillow.

He captioned the post: “Thank you for all your kind words and messages. Last Wednesday during my training for Dancing on Ice I fell and broke my left ankle.

'I have had surgery and will be on crutches for a few months, which means I have had to leave the competition, which I am absolutely devastated about.

Sources close to Stephen said he was 'thoroughly enjoying the new challenge' and getting to know judges Torvill and Dean and the other celebrity contestants, and is 'gutted' to lose his place in the competition before the show even but has started.

'I had so much fun and enjoyed learning to skate. I will of course be keeping a close eye on all the other celebrities and professionals and supporting them all the way.

'Unfortunately I also have to withdraw from the London Marathon. I'm doing my best to keep my spirits up and hopefully I'll be back on my feet soon.”

Stephen was rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, where doctors told him he had broken his left ankle.

The TV personality underwent surgery to have metal plates placed in his ankle for extra support, but there was no hope of him returning to the ice for this series.

They said: 'Stephen is devastated… he's absolutely devastated.'

He added: “He loved training but when he put his skates on he broke his ankle and was rushed to hospital.

'After two days and surgery to place metal plates in his left ankle, doctors told him there was no chance he could return to training, so he had no choice but to withdraw from competition.'

A spokesperson for Dancing On Ice said at the time: 'Stephen Lustig-Webb has had to withdraw from the show due to an injury he sustained to his ankle during training.

'He is still very much part of the Dancing On Ice family, we will help support Stephen and we wish him the best of luck in his recovery.'

He has been replaced by Olympic ski jumper Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards.

The athlete, 59, will take to the ice alongside his fellow celebrities as training for the 2024 series has now begun.

Eddie said: “It's bittersweet because while I'm thrilled to be taking part in the new series, I'm gutted for Stephen and wish him a speedy recovery.
