- Lockyer and his wife are raising four children
- Huge profit on the sale of their former building
Darren Lockyer famously made the move from fullback to five-eighth during his glittering NRL career, and now a $6 million real estate windfall has seen him move to one of Brisbane’s most sought-after suburbs.
The Brisbane Broncos, Maroons and Kangaroos greats have snapped up a majestic six-bedroom Queenslander in the upscale suburb of New Farm, just weeks after selling his previous home for almost six times what he paid for it.
Lockyer is one of the most famous faces to ever grace the Broncos training base in Red Hill and home of Suncorp Stadium – Lang Park to locals – and bought his previous family home in the nearby suburb of Paddington.
Lockyer and his wife Loren paid $1.125 million for the property in 2012 and sold it this year for about $6.5 million.
“The buyer and seller are both very happy,” Wakely Properties director Ben Wakely said at the time.
“Through my own process of looking for a similar property I knew there weren’t many in the area and there are a number of people looking for properties that have been completed and are on larger blocks.
‘Even [the home’s] if it’s a little older, it would be a lot more expensive to replace it.”
Now the Hall of Fame inductee has been able to enjoy a $5 million luxury property in New Farm, next to the Brisbane River, where he will continue to raise his four children.

New Farm is one of Brisbane’s most boutique precincts, with a median house price of $2.6 million and a unit price of $815,000, reflecting significant growth in recent years.
The area is highly sought after for its vibrant lifestyle and proximity to the city, attracting professionals and affluent residents.
Properties in New Farm range from historic Queenslanders to modern apartments, offering a variety of living options.
The Lockyers have snapped up the most sought-after properties in the suburb, combining the best elements of the historic Queenslander, which was originally built in 1920, with modern conveniences and entertainment spaces.
The New Farm property opens up completely, allowing fresh air and sunlight into most rooms, including the downstairs living room overlooking the pool
Although the property is a classic 1920s Queensland, it has plenty of modern conveniences, including this luxury kitchen
The Lockyer’s have been able to buy their dream home in New Farm and still have around €1.5 million in reserve from the sale of their old property
The property was listed by Place New Farm agents Aaron Woolard and Flyn Park in May and heralded as ‘one of Brisbane’s most beautiful homes’.
Located between two parks, the home also features a swimming pool and resort-style pool house.
It also features numerous open-plan living areas and an expansive terrace to catch the afternoon breeze overlooking the pool.
Additionally, Lockyer’s location puts it within walking distance of the New Farm and Sydney St ferry terminals, New Farm Park and numerous boutique cafes and restaurants.
And he will be left with around $1.5 million in spare change from the sale of their Paddington estate, which he will reportedly reinvest in his commercial ventures.
