- Previous home sold for $3.55 million at mid-year auction
- 'Downsized' to a beautiful penthouse in the north of Sydney
- Comes after Chappell called time on his commentary career
Former Australian cricket captain Ian Chappell and his wife Barbara-Ann recently secured a $2.4 million penthouse in Elanora Heights in Sydney's north through an off-market purchase.
The decision follows the sale of their Bayview home for an impressive $3.55 million at a mid-year auction.
Since retiring from his cricket career in 1980, Chappell has risen to prominence as a sports journalist and cricket commentator, mainly associated with Channel Nine.
His impact on cricket is particularly underlined by Shane Warne, who in 2006 credited Chappell as the most important influence on his career.

Chappell's illustrious career has earned him prestigious accolades, including induction into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 1986, the FICA Cricket Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame in 2003.
Furthermore, in recognition of his contributions, Ian Chappell was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame on 9 July 2009.
The couple's new residence, a three-bedroom penthouse with a study located in the Elanora complex, offers breathtaking ocean views.
Previously sold in 2014 for $1,170,000, the property boasts a prime location and a wrap-around terrace offering panoramic views from Pittwater to Lion Island.
The Chappells initially purchased property in the area for $295,000 in late 1984 when they moved from Neutral Bay. The recent move to Elanora Heights represents a significant downsizing decision.
While the move could be considered a downsizing for Chappell and his wife, their new home doesn't lack for space or amenities.

During the auction of their former Bayview residence, six registered buyers pushed the final sale price $800,000 over reserve.
The property, a four-bedroom, three-bathroom house on a cul-de-sac, offered stunning views and had been in the Chappell family since the mid-1980s.
Ian Chappell, now 80, had an illustrious cricket career. He captained Australia from 1971 to 1975 and played 75 Tests for Australia between 1964 and 1980. Notably, he played a crucial role in the establishment of World Series Cricket.
In addition to his cricket exploits, Chappell briefly owned a two-bedroom apartment in the Edgewater over-55s complex in Bayview, which sold in 2020 for $1,850,000.
Ian Chappell retired from his four-decade career as a commentator for Channel Nine in 2022 and remains a key figure in Australian cricket.
