Go Compare advert star Wynne Evans takes on a week-long juice cleanse to lose weight

Go Compare commercial Wynne Evans goes on a week-long juice cleanse in an effort to lose weight after being inspired by Carol Vorderman

Go Compare ad star Wynne Evans went without solid food for a week to lose weight.

The 51-year-old opera singer has had a health kick after his weight crept up to 22 stone and is now taking extreme measures by sticking to a special diet of fruit and vegetable smoothies four times a day.

While he may be missing out on hot meals, TV’s Gio Compario will find himself in sultry surroundings after checking into Portugal’s Juice Master Retreat, where a week’s stay costs up to £1,150.

While at the health farm, he starts meditation each day at 6am, then yoga, circuit training and a walk around the grounds of the country retreat.

Evans has already lost four stone after vowing to get mentally and physically fit, but he admitted he has ‘hit a plateau’ and hopes this will jump-start the process.

Evans told listeners of his morning show on Radio Wales: ‘I’ve canceled my holiday to go see my nephew and have decided to go on a health retreat instead.

‘You just drink juice for a week, it makes you healthier.

“I could be well polished by the time I get back. People will say, “Who’s that Adonis that walked into the building?”

“I’ll say, ‘Stand back ladies, it’s just Wynne Evans – nothing to see here.'”

Welsh tenor Evans, from Cardiff, revealed he got the idea from Carol Vorderman, who also has a show on BBC Wales.

The Countdown star, 62, was last at the retreat in January and spent a week Alison Hammond dancing alongside the likes of Rob Rinder, Carol Vorderman, Denise Welch, Alex Scott and Jason himself.

He said, ‘Vorders went through with it and she looks good, not that I’d want to look like her if you know what I mean. I’ll let you know how it goes, I’m looking forward to it.’

Evans documented his stay on Instagram, sharing a photo of the activity board and writing: ‘Love day two @juicemasterretreats it’s utterly brilliant. I take as many classes as possible. Meeting like-minded people and starting to feel full of energy.’

Evans documented his weight loss journey on social media and previously revealed that his size increased after the breakup of his marriage and the loss of both of his parents.

The father-of-two is best known for appearing in the ads for Go Compare, a role that spanned 14 years.

However, the Welsh tenor had a successful career before he hit TV.

He was cast as Ubaldo Piangi, in the 25th Anniversary production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall and has sung at 30 international rugby matches in Wales.

Blast from the past! The TV star has been a fixture on screens since 2009 in his operatic alter ego Gio Compario, known for his signature tuxedo and curly moustache.
