- A new documentary goes behind the scenes with the Matildas
- Stan Sports releases Trailblazers before the Olympic Games in Paris
- Sam Kerr and Mary Fowler are involved in the documentary
Matildas fans are getting a behind-the-scenes look after Stan Sports announced the arrival of a new documentary about Sam Kerr & Co, premiering later this year.
Tony Gustavsson’s side sealed their place at the Paris Olympics on Wednesday evening after beating Uzbekistan 13-0 on aggregate, capping a remarkable 12 months in which they reached the World Cup semi-finals.
And now, a Stan original documentary titled Trailblazers will showcase the transformative journey of the Australian women’s team.
Trailblazers takes viewers through the rise of the Matildas and women’s football in Australia in general.
The documentary is about the first FIFA-recognized game from 1989 and the early years of pay-to-play, but also about teams’ struggle for equal pay in 2015, their heartbreak during Tokyo 2020 and last year’s World Cup journey.
The Matildas will be the focus of a new documentary coming to Stan Originals

Katrina Gorry can be seen in the documentary that focuses on women’s football
Kerr, Mary Fowler and Katrina Gorry, just a handful of the players who are now household names, will be featured in the documentary.
Trailblazers are broadcast just before the start of the Olympic Games in Paris.
Stan Chief Content Officer Cailah Scobie said: “Stan is thrilled to be working with the filmmakers at Trailblazers, Documentary Australia and Mecca to amplify and celebrate the incredible rise of women’s football.
“The Matildas are one of Australia’s most loved teams and we know this documentary will inspire, educate and stimulate important conversations in the run-up to Paris 2024.”
The Stan Original Documentary Trailblazers will be available soon, only on Stan.
The documentary about Stan will be broadcast before the Paris Olympics later this year
