GMB turns 10: Susanna Reid marvels at her transformed image and ‘teenage-looking’ Ben Shephard in throwback as show marks a decade on air… and Piers Morgan even makes a comeback!

Good Morning Britain celebrated its tenth anniversary on air on Monday.

The show first hit screens in 2014 and ten years after the first episode, Susanna Reid spoke to co-host Richard Madeley about the show’s early life.

A flashback clip showed the presenter alongside Ben Shephard, Sean Fletcher and Charlotte Hawkins as Laura Tobin stood next to their desks, while a later montage showed former stars including controversial star Piers Morgan.

She announced the show’s debut in the throwback, before the camera panned back to the present day where Richard asked Susanna if she remembered the first day – to which she confessed she vividly remembered the first episode.

After labeling Ben, who is now the frontman of This Morning, as ‘teenish’, she then revealed she had framed a newspaper cutting condemning the show.

Speaking to Richard after the clip aired, Susanna said: ‘And how we’ve all changed! Good Morning Britain is celebrating its 10th anniversary… Happy Birthday to all our viewers and please get in touch if you remember that moment from 10 years ago…

Later in the day, Susanna joined her former co-star Ben Shephard on This Morning, where he is now the full-time presenter in place of Phillip Schofield.

‘Yes, of course I remember! Laura [Tobin] was there and I launched with another guy – a teenage Ben Shephard’.

Susanna then revealed that from then on she framed a newspaper headline claiming the show would only last until Christmas.

When the show started, Susanna, Ben and Charlotte all presented four days a week, with Sean presenting every day. When Susanna was absent, Charlotte took her place and was in turn replaced by Kate Garraway or Ranvir Singh.

The show has seen a host of presenters during its time on screens and a video montage saw much-loved presenters, including Kate and Adil Ray, in clips – while more controversial figures have also been seen on screen.

Piers returned in a clip following his dramatic departure three years ago after controversy arose over his views on Meghan Markle.

In 2021, following Meghan’s claims that she had become suicidal due to the attention of the British press, Piers claimed he “didn’t believe a word” she said.

He was then targeted by weather presenter Alex Beresford, who called him out for ‘continuing to trash’ the Meghan – leading to Piers storming the set before his permanent departure was announced shortly afterwards.

Piers courted further controversy earlier in his time as a presenter, after sparking accusations of racism and more than 1,500 Ofcom complaints in January 2020.

He commented on a Chinese dairy ad, saying, “He uses ching chang chong milk,” and also spoke over the ad, saying, “ching chang cho jo.”

He was accused by some viewers of using racist language used to antagonize Chinese people, and of mocking the Chinese language
