Donald Trump meets Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin as running mate battle reaches fever pitch
Former President Trump and Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin met Wednesday at Trump National Golf Club in Loudon County, Virginia.
It was the first time the two leaders have met and comes as speculation continues to swirl about who Trump will select as his running mate.
DailyMail.com was told by a source in the know that they were not discussing Trump’s open vice presidential position, but rather how to win Virginia in 2024.
The leaders spoke specifically about the strategy to win over voters, including tightening the economy, inflation and the border crisis.
Trump has teased that he will announce his VP pick at the upcoming Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

He told Fox News’ Aishah Hasnie on Thursday that Youngkin “is great” and would consider him for vice president.
‘I think I might consider that. Yes. I didn’t do that, I wasn’t asked that question, but it would be on that list. He’s very good. We had a great meeting about Virginia,” he said.
And electing Youngkin could actually help him win the general election in just five months.
Recent polls have shown that Virginia, a deep purple state, could actually play a role in the presidential election.
In 2020, President Biden received 54 percent of the vote, compared to Trump’s 44 percent.
But according to a recent survey from the Roanoke College Institute, Biden and Trump are tied in Virginia at 48 percent.
Youngkin continued to support the former president until after Super Tuesday in March.

There was speculation that Youngkin himself would compete in the 2024 race, but he put those theories to bed last year.
“I’m not going anywhere,” he told reporters, adding that he was focused on the Commonwealth.

North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum is the leader along with Senators J.D. Vance, Ohio, Marco Rubio, Florida, a Democrat turned Republican ex-Representative. Tulsi Gabbard and Rep. Elise Stefanik, RN.Y.
South Carolina Senator Tim Scott and South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem are also on the list.
Trump traveled to Washington DC after his meeting with Youngkin to speak with lawmakers in the House of Representatives and the Senate.
Behind closed doors at the Capitol Hill Club on the House side, he insisted the Russia-Ukraine war did not happen on his watch and urged Republicans to get better at reporting on abortion.
The former president told a horde of Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill that Vladimir Putin is “more afraid of him than he is of Biden.”
He also praised Republican ‘unity’ after a meeting in the Senate.
“I just want to thank the Republican Senate, and I also want to thank the House that, as you know, we met today with the full Republican House of the House and we had a great meeting with them as well.”

‘And there’s a big unit that’s very similar, basically different topics, but not that different. And there is one thing in common: we want to make America great again, we want to make our country great again, we are a nation in decline. We are a declining nation.”
Trump emphasized that Republicans are “going to bring back our jobs” and “bring common sense back to government.” He added that there will be “strong borders” and that people will be able to enter the US legally and not “flow out of prisons all over South America and around the world.”
