Indian trolls have targeted the wife of Australian cricket star Glenn Maxwell after Australia’s thrilling World Cup win over the subcontinent country on Sunday.
Maxwell scored the winning runs in the shock six-wicket win over raging favorites India, leaving many fans furious.
Nearly 100,000 cricket fans packed the Narendra Modi Stadium for the final, while millions watched on television in anticipation of an Indian victory.
But after going through the tournament undefeated, India was defeated at the last hurdle.
Now the great all-rounder’s wife Vini Raman – who was born in India – has revealed how some supporters took the loss too far with shocking abuse aimed at her and Maxwell.

‘Cue all the hateful, mean DMs (direct messages). Stay stylish,” she wrote on social media platform X.
“I can’t believe this has to be said, but you can be Indian and also support the country of your birth where you grew up and, more importantly, the team your husband and father of your child play for.
Take a chill pill and direct that outrage to more important world problems.”
Even that post evoked bitter feelings among Indian fans.
“Are you happy with India’s loss or your husband’s win?” someone asked.
“True champions India,” another posted.
Vini wasn’t the only Australian WAG to undergo painful treatment after Australia’s win.

Travis Head’s wife Jessica has also been the target of objectionable comments on social media after she partied with her husband at the Australian team’s shed on Sunday following his excellent innings of 137.
Bitter Indian fans even targeted journalists, with ESPN writer Steve Smith – who is no relation to the Australian batsman – revealing the barbs he received in his inbox.
“I hope the plane crashes and all your team dies along with their family members,” one message read.
“If I ever see you somewhere, you won’t run away,” read another.
Ian Higgins, host of the popular podcast Grade Cricketer, was also told to commit suicide.
Australia shocked India in the ICC World Cup final, handing out their only defeat of the tournament to claim the trophy for the sixth time.

Even New Zealand player Jimmy Neesham was targeted by Indian fans who thought he was Australian.
“People who don’t know Aus and NZ are two different countries,” he posted on Instagram with an image of him snapping his middle finger.
Many Indian fans jumped to the defense of the Australian team and their WAGs and condemned the abuse they faced.
“I feel ashamed as an Indian cricket fan,” one person posted.
“Our cricket fanbase is one of the most toxic in the world. It is unfair to abuse that is directed at players or one’s partner.”
