- Glenn Maxwell will miss Australia’s match against England
- He injured himself after falling from a golf cart
- Maxwell is under concussion protocols
In-form Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has suffered concussion after falling from a golf cart and will miss the World Cup match against England.
Maxwell will be under concussion protocols for up to eight days after his second freak accident in the past year.
Last November, Maxwell broke a leg when he slipped while pretending to chase a friend at a birthday party.
His latest accident occurred during the cup match in India when, after playing golf with teammates on Monday, he fell from a cart carrying players to the team bus.
“An unfortunate accident occurred during a team golf day on Monday where Glenn Maxwell fell from a golf cart and suffered a concussion,” a Cricket Australia (CA) spokesperson said on Wednesday.

‘Maxwell has been assessed by CA medical staff and ruled out of Saturday’s World Cup match against England.
‘The accident happened during a planned day off. There is no further injury other than the concussion.”
Maxwell will be further assessed ahead of Australia’s match against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday.
His injury paves the way for all-rounder Marcus Stoinis to return from a calf problem while easing the selection pressure on Marnus Labuschagne.
Labuschagne had been tipped to be replaced by Stoinis, if proven fit, or Cameron Green for the match against England.
Maxwell’s absence also deprives captain Pat Cummins of a bowling option, with the offspinner taking four wickets so far in the tournament.
Maxwell’s mid-range punch will also be sorely missed; he hit the fastest World Cup century, off just 40 balls, against the Netherlands on 24 October.

The Victorian followed up that record performance with 41 from just 24 deliveries in Australia’s five-run win against New Zealand last Saturday.
With three group matches remaining, Australia are in fourth place in the overall standings and in the box seat, securing a place in the semi-finals.
After a meeting with arch-enemy England, the Australians play against Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
