Glenn Maxwell breaks his silence after passing out on boozy night out and being rushed to hospital by ambulance

Glenn Maxwell is embarrassed but will avoid sanction after being taken to hospital by ambulance during a drunken night out.

The Australian cricket star was taken to hospital after fainting in the green room while watching former fast bowler Brett Lee’s tape ‘Six and Out’. Other players at the performance were unable to wake him.

The superstar all-rounder had been in Adelaide for a golf promo before taking on more drinking, with people close to Maxwell suggesting dehydration after a hot day played a role.

“Glenn is a bit embarrassed by the whole thing,” Maxwell’s manager Ben Tippett told The Age.

“He was in some pain on Saturday and regretted it, but he is back in Melbourne and resumed training yesterday. He is not being investigated by Cricket Australia.

“Maxi spoke to (selector) George Bailey yesterday. We talked to them, they talked to us and it’s done.

“It’s more like ‘you were in the hospital and you’re doing fine’?”

‘He was training again yesterday. He had about a week off after the Big Bash League and is back training and doing some specific things on his leg that he needs to do.”

Captain Pat Cumminswho ‘didn’t cross paths’ with Maxwell at night wasn’t too concerned amid allegations of a pattern of behavior involving Maxwell, who also fell off the back of a golf cart during last year’s World Cup in Indiamissing a game due to a concussion.

“Potentially, I think only ‘Maxy’ can answer that question,” Cummins said when asked if Maxwell should weigh in on his decision-making.

‘I was there at The Gov for the concert but I left quite early – I knew he was in town but I didn’t meet Maxy at all.

‘We are all adults and part of being an adult is making your own decisions.

‘Regarding this incident, he wasn’t on tour with Australia, he was there for a private event so he wasn’t with the cricket team so it’s a little bit different but absolutely, every decision you make you have to own it and feel comfortable with it.

“I don’t think in terms of performance on the pitch you can really ask for much more from the way the players have performed, but I also think the way we’ve gone about it, the team has shown incredible discipline and I think they’ve We have made many people proud of the way we have handled it in recent years.’

Maxwell was being ‘managed’ from the ODI squad that will play the West Indies next week, but Hockley said the two cases were not related and CA were trying to get more details about the incident.

“He always needed rest,” Hockley told 2GB on Tuesday.

‘He needs some rehabilitation during the one-day series, so that’s not related. As far as some reports go, we’re just figuring this out and it’s too early to speculate.”

Despite not knowing the details of what happened, Clarke, a World Cup-winning teammate of Maxwell’s in 2015, said questions needed to be answered.

“Having to be put in an ambulance makes me nervous,” he said.

‘With things like this, with things off the field. I like ‘the benefit of the doubt and innocent until proven guilty’.

‘I know one thing: Cricket Australia will get to the bottom of it. Nowadays there are cameras and there are people, so the truth will be told.

“The other thing we have to do is make sure he’s okay. He didn’t end up spending the night there (in the hospital). I can’t think of a time when I had to call an ambulance or an ambulance was called for me, no matter how drunk I was.

“So I’m afraid there’s more to it and first of all I hope he’s okay.”
