- “John is a great guy, but he was in no way their number one choice,” they said
- People’s choice for the coveted title this year has divided many people
Glen Powell and Pedro Pascal turned down People’s Sexiest Man Alive before 45-year-old John Krasinski was finally crowned the coveted title, according to an insider.
A source told DailyMail.com that the magazine had ‘begged both to accept this’ but was ‘constantly shut down’.
‘Every year the magazine dreams about who they want to get, but the person they want doesn’t always agree to it. Do you really think they wanted Patrick Dempsey last year?” they said.
“And this year, like Patrick, John is a great guy, but he wasn’t their number one pick by any means. This year the magazine asked Glen Powell and Pedro Pascal to make the choice a few times, but they kept saying no.

“They both had their reasons for turning it down, but People Magazine begged them both to accept it and they kept getting shot down.”
The source went on to say that “sexiest man alive” was not “important” to the Twisters actor, 36, or the Gladiator II star, 49, “at this point in their careers.”
“Glen wants to make more of an impact with acting now that he’s finally getting great roles and becoming more of a star and Pedro doesn’t feel like he ever wanted to entertain,” they added.
“He sees the gimmick in it and even though there is flattery in it, his ego doesn’t need it.”
DailyMail.com has contacted representatives from People, Glen, Pedro and Patrick.
During Tuesday’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the TV host announced John, who is married to 41-year-old British actress Emily Blunt, as the magazine’s pick for this year, leaving many people divided over the choice.
‘John Krasinski sexiest man in the world? Hmmmm, not sure,” one person wrote.
‘John Krasinski People’s Sexiest Man Alive? I must have missed something,” a second added.
Another commenter shared a photo of John’s wife Emily crying in a still from the movie The Devil Wears Prada, writing, “Only his wife thinks that.”

The source went on to say that Glen or Pedro (pictured with his sister Lux) were not “important” to be “Sexiest Man Alive” at this point in their careers.
“To me this is worse than Benny Blanco, like feeding it to a slice of bread,” someone else wrote.
However, others had more positive reactions. “Oh, be nice, I think he’s sexy…maybe not the sexiest…but he’s smart and funny.”
“Well, honestly, I’m not mad about it,” someone else added.
“I’ve been rooting for him since The Office.”
Even the star himself says he thought he was being “punked,” according to People.
The actor also revealed that his wife, Emily Blunt, 41, was “really excited” when she heard he was named “Sexiest Man Alive,” adding, “It was really nice to tell her.”
