The mood was high today as Glastonbury revelers crawled out of their tents to feast on cooked breakfasts and took cold outdoor showers to prepare for a jam-packed performance from some of music’s greats.
Thousands of music fans camped out at Somerset’s sprawling Worthy Farm awoke to good news today after festival co-organiser Emily Eavis confirmed that the Arctic Monkeys will be headlining the Pyramid Stage tonight.
The group’s highly anticipated performance was called into question earlier in the week after the band canceled the Dublin gig due to illness.
But festival goers were reassured when Ms Eavis confirmed ‘they’re on it’, adding ‘it was just a little bit close to that and we were thinking about whether we should have a serious backup plan. but no, luckily they are on’.
Happy campers were treated to dry weather overnight with an expected 25 degrees Celsius during the day, according to the Met Office.

Many festival-goers enjoyed their breakfast outside while basking in the warm morning weather, while others braved the cold water by stripping down to their underwear to shower.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the National Weather Service said: ‘Weather is fine at Glastonbury Festival for most of the weekend with only a slight chance of showers.
Friday and Saturday should see plenty of dry, clear weather with some sunny spells, albeit hazy at times, with highs around the mid-twenties, with some warm nights following as the sun sets.
‘Sunday will see some warm sunshine at first, although some showers are possible during the afternoon, although these will be unsettled in nature.
“Conditions appear to be freshening up from Monday as temperatures move closer to average.”
Before the Arctic Monkeys, Carley Rae Jepson, Maisie Peters and Sparks will perform with Hozier, confirming that he will be one of the surprise acts to perform at the festival on Friday night.
He posted to social media this morning and wrote, ‘Excited to announce that tonight (Friday) I will be playing @glastofest again in a not-so-secret set. See you at 7:30 PM, WoodSIES stage.”
Speaking on Zoe Ball’s BBC Radio 2 program this morning, Ms Eavis seemed inadvertently confirming rumors that Rick Astley and Blossoms will be playing a secret set this weekend.

The training took place in the blazing sun, with an expected temperature of 25C later today
The other big rumor of the day concerns a mysterious band called The Churnups who are listed to perform for rock duo Royal Blood and Arctic Monkeys, with speculation that this could be a cover name for Foo Fighters.
Eavis responded to the rumbling saying, “To be honest I think there are a lot of rumors going around about The Churnups, one of which is true.
“I don’t think I can fully confirm it, but it’s coming.
“But this is a huge, huge, huge, huge surprise and we kept this a secret for so long, just me and[her husband]Nick, we didn’t even tell the kids we were like, ‘No one is supposed to know about this’ and I think it will be extraordinary later on.’
Fitness fanatic and YouTube star Joe Wicks watched the thousands warm up in a very energetic crowd this morning.
He was seen running around the Gateway Riser stage as merry revelers dubbed him.
The third day of the festival will also see film screenings, theater and circus performances and a debate entitled Solidarity with Iran, in which British-Iranian charity worker Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, who was imprisoned there for six years, will participate.
It’s because ticketless fans have been trying to get into the festival by climbing the giant 4-meter-high walls surrounding the farm.
Two Glastonbury gatecrashers documented their illegal escape using grappling hooks ‘like batman’ to pull themselves over the fence.
The two young men documented their journey to the festival grounds, including a long walk through fields, muddy ditches and woods before arriving.
In the video on TikTok, the pair announced ‘today people we’re breaking in Glastonbury’ and started their journey in West Pennard, about four miles from the festival, each with camping backpacks.
Eventually, the unnamed youths in the video found their way to a clearing that directly overlooked the sprawling music festival, with the famous Pyramid Stage in plain sight.
They then made their way down through dense forest before approaching the menacing gates. At this point they grabbed their grappling hooks towards us and pulled themselves aside.
Although they failed to film themselves pulling themselves into the festival, the video later shows them in what appears to be a security tent, surrounded by guards protecting the festival from intruders.

One of the naughty two said while being held, “It’s not good. Let’s try again next year guys’ while a smiling security guard said ‘if you come back here again I’ll put you in a cell myself’.
And they’re not the first to break in this year. Security guards have already revealed that they spent all week battling the desperate revelers who tried to sneak in.
A security guard told The Times: ‘They’re trying to get under the wall. It’s like The Great Escape, but in reverse.’
Another said, “It’s wild. We’ve had to chase people who shoot through the gate with their bags on, and some use grappling hooks to pull panels off the wall and climb over them, like Batman.”
Sunbelt Rentals, who designed and installed the massive 4.12 m high and 7.8 km long walls, said they are “virtually impenetrable.” Nevertheless, those without tickets have tried to take their chance.
Last year, Kingfisher Security, which helps prevent people from entering the site, said there were 127 gate crashes.
