Glamorous Shark Tank contestant who was roasted for her ‘pretty privilege’ unloads on audience

A glamorous Shark Tank contestant has hit back at viewers after she was roasted for her “beautiful privilege” on the show.

Dating coach Blaine Anderson, who gives advice to single men looking to escape the ‘friend zone’, defended her pitch after people branded it ‘terrible’ online.

The original Reddit poster criticized her performance as “one of the absolute worst I’ve ever seen,” based on the statistical predictions Anderson made, which included a company valuation of an “insane” $20 million.

“She didn’t know her sales figures by product,” the audience member wrote. “She didn’t even know how many units or sales she had for her largest product.”

Other angry audience members agreed, flooding the replies with complaints that Anderson was “out of touch and cringing” while benefiting from “quite a privilege.”

Anderson, who is in her mid-30s, appeared on the ABC reality show in November seeking $100,000 for a two percent stake in her company, called Dating By Blaine.

The episode was rebroadcast on Tuesday night, sparking a barrage of criticism online.

On the show, Anderson said she launched her company in mid-2020 and her total sales since then have reached $2.2 million, prompting a collective “woah” from the Sharks.

The entrepreneur said she sells $149 texting courses along with pre-recorded “dating masterclass” videos for $1,295, which includes personalized help creating dating app profiles.

She also sells a six-part series of 45-minute one-on-one sessions, priced at $6,295, for men who want to get the full package.

But Anderson’s pitch began to falter when she admitted she didn’t know how many classes she had sold in the past year.

“That’s a Shark Tank no-no,” one of the main sharks, Mark Cuban, told her. But Anderson eventually won him over and agreed to a $100,000 investment in exchange for 10 percent of her sales.

Redditors were stunned that Anderson managed to get a deal done — and they weren’t keeping quiet about it. Aside from her math skills, they condemned the businesswoman for closing the deal thanks to “quite a privilege.”

“Either it was quite a privilege/kissing Mark’s a** or the producers had something to do with it,” one person said angrily.

“In no world should she have made a deal. Not knowing her grades should have been a deal breaker, as it almost always is.”

Anderson hit back at the trolls, writing a lengthy thread on X to explain the story behind her Shark Tank appearance “for the first time ever.”

Anderson describes her program as a texting course that “teaches men how to text women without sounding weird or creepy” and said she never signed up for the show.

Instead, a producer contacted her after seeing a New York Times article about her company, she said.

“A Shark Tank producer sees the article, sends an email and asks to chat. I obviously agree with that, albeit with tempered excitement,” Anderson explained.

‘My services and products are digital and my company does not require working capital, so the connection is not clear. The producer encourages me to apply for Shark Tank anyway.”

Anderson said that after months of filing paperwork, she found herself on the set of Shark Tank in Los Angeles in May 2023.

“On set I’m nervous AF and have my eye on most of the shooting,” Anderson wrote.

“What I remember is: – The guy Shark, Michael Rubin, wanted NOTHING to do with me – Kevin wanted to invest, and I knew I didn’t want that – Barbara made my deal with Mark.

‘You film for 40 minutes, and there are NO segments, so the editors exercise great control over what goes on TV.

“I’m grateful that the editors didn’t make me look like a total dumbass – at least in my opinion – not Reddit’s – which we’ll talk about later.”

Anderson said the process involved sitting in a room with a psychologist, adding that everyone behind the scenes “from the makeup artists to the lawyers” is “thoughtful and friendly.”

But people online weren’t.

“My performance got ROASTED on Reddit,” Anderson said.

‘The complaints were basically: 1. My rating was too high. 2. I didn’t know my grades. 3. Beautiful privileges are the driving force behind my success.

“My response to r/sharktank: 1. I can ask for any appraisal I want. Suck it.

‘2. Confirmed, I’m not very good with numbers. I’m a dating coach and matchmaker, not an accountant. Who wants to hire a dating coach who cares about margins?!

‘3. A fair amount of privilege probably helps. Get started with it.’

Anderson also revealed for the first time that despite on-screen appearances, she never closed the deal with Cuban.

“Expecting to close the deal, I spent tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees, plus months of my focus, hoping to make things work,” she said.

‘Not closing the deal came down to: — My life is easy without outside investors. — My life would be more difficult with outside investors.

“It took me months to realize that, and for the sake of everyone involved, I regret not seeing the light sooner.”

Regardless of how it turned out, Anderson especially had warm words for Cuban.

“It’s fashionable to roast him at X, and he looks 100 percent like Rachel Maddow in those photos, but… I can’t say enough good things about Mark Cuban,” she said.

‘Mark is down to earth, easy to work with, shockingly accessible, super smart and funny. He cares about his entrepreneurs, and I would love to work with him someday.”
