World champion boxer Ebanie Bridges says she doesn’t believe Conor Benn is a drug cheater after his failed drug test has cast doubt on the blockbuster fight against Chris Eubank Jr.

The weight fight was thrown into chaos on Wednesday when it was confirmed that Benn had returned an “adverse analytical finding for trace amounts of a fertility drug,” only for promoters to insist that the contest go ahead.

Social media users reacted quickly to Benn after the bombshell news, which comes just days before Saturday’s big game at the O2 Arena.

But IBF world bantamweight champion Ebanie Bridges has insisted the 26-year-old could be the innocent victim here.

‘No, definitely not!! When should the results of this B sample be available?” Bridges tweeted when she heard the news.

American boxing promoter Lou DiBella was much more skeptical and replied to Bridges: ‘B samples NEVER test differently. I’ve never seen it before and since it’s the same urine taken at the same time, in a different bottle, it’s not surprising. The child cheats and gets caught. PERIOD OF TIME.’

Bridges replied, ‘Yeah I know, but it could be infected, this happens!! I don’t believe for a second that Conor is a drug cheater.’

The Aussie’s followers weren’t that forgiving of Benn, and they let her know.

“No Ebanie, not a drug in sight,” one user commented sarcastically, posting a photo of Benn shirtless and looking incredibly fit.

A second commented, “Dear God. You can tell each matchroom that you have been promoted. The b-monster never shows up.’

Clomiphene, the substance found in Benn’s system, is commonly used to treat infertility in women, but can increase testosterone in men and is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

It’s still not clear if Benn’s situation will lead to a cancellation of this weekend’s blockbuster with Eubank Jr, which falls nearly 30 years after the second of two iconic fights between their fathers, Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank.

Bridges’ next fight will be her world title against fellow Australian and fierce rival ‘Shotgun’ Shannon O’Connell in Leeds on December 11 – and will be the biggest female fight in Australian boxing history.
