Glam Sarah Lancashire looks worlds away from Happy Valley as she enjoys a date with husband Peter Salmon in London

She’s been on TV screens as the no-nonsense Sergeant Catherine Cawood, usually sporting a black eye or a face bruised from scratches with criminals.

But Sarah Lancashire looked worlds away from Happy Valley as she enjoyed a stylish date with husband Peter Salmon in London on Friday night.

The 58-year-old actress and Peter put on a show of love as they headed into the capital hand in hand.

Sarah cut a stylish figure in a cozy black coat, polo collar, and suede boots. She wore her hair in an elegant bun and carried a large black bag.

Meanwhile, Peter rocked a double jean look with a suede coat and scarf.

The couple headed to London when their Happy Valley co-star James Norton took the stage in Richmond to play disabled lawyer Jude St Francis in A Little Life, an adaptation of Hanya Yanagihara’s Booker-nominated novel.

The actor’s latest role sees him throwing up quite a bit more, with the actor performing nude on stage.

As James steps on the boards, Sarah and Peter, who married in 2001 and have a son, are said to be setting up a production company together, having filed documents for Via Pictures in January.

They were also seen house hunting in west London last month after the end of Happy Valley.

The BAFTA Television Awards nominations were announced on Wednesday, with viewers previously saying they wanted the former Corrie star to “win all the prizes” after her gripping portrayal of Officer Sergeant Catherine Cawood in the BBC drama, set in Yorkshire.

The third season wrapped up in February and while many fans were hoping for a high-octane conclusion, and perhaps even Catherine’s death, writer Sally Wainwright’s decision to revolve its finale around a 15-minute table-top war of words in the kitchen between Tommy and Catherine left viewers in awe.

‘A showdown worth waiting for: no guns, no knives, no punches, but a battle of words that Catherine badly needed to say. Excellent material from Sally Wainwright, a bow turn from Sarah Lancashire and a whirlwind of emotions from James Norton. What an ending,” declared one viewer.

Others praised Sarah’s performance, with one fan deciding that she “deserves all the BAFTAs and Golden Globes and Oscars and it still won’t be enough.”

I already feel sorry for any drama or actress going up against Happy Valley and Sarah Lancashire at next year’s BAFTAs. Forget it, it’s over, you don’t have a chance,” writer Emma Kennedy agreed.

Hopeful: The BAFTA Television Awards nominations were announced on Wednesday, with viewers previously declaring they wanted the former Corrie star to “win every award”

Rosamund Urwin of the Sunday Times noted, “I hope the success of Happy Valley means that there are plenty of dramas currently being commissioned with 50-something women as leads, especially if they aren’t always entirely likable characters.” Sarah Lancashire is just stellar.

“Many endings are disappointing, but Happy Valley finished brilliantly.

Another masterclass from Sarah Lancashire and James Norton held his ground in front of her. Sally Wainwright’s screenplay, a master class in storytelling.’
