Giuliani finally pays alimony to ex-wife after angry judge threatened to send him to JAIL

Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani was verbally abused by a judge Friday and threatened with jail time for missing court dates and delaying divorce payments to his ex-wife, while suing him for $262,000 in missing alimony.

Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Michael Katz seemingly ran out of patience with Giuliani and threatened him with jail time, saying, “A sheriff has been notified to come today as soon as possible.

“This is a very serious matter,” Katz told an apologetic Giuliani, who missed a hearing last month.

Giuliani claimed he entered the wrong date for the hearing and called the absence “really stupid” when he appeared with his ex-wife, Judith Giuliani.

But Katz pushed back the apology and said, “You repeated the appointment for me, so you knew about it.”

“I told everyone to be here on the 23rd and you repeated that to me. I don’t understand your excuse,” he scolded.

Giuliani insisted he “wrote it wrong when I left the courthouse.”

The controversial ally of Donald Trump also handed over copies of the checks he said he had paid to his ex-wife for the alimony payments.

Judith, in a lawsuit filed with the New York Supreme Court, alleges that Rudy has been “inconsistent and sporadic” with the payments he was required to give her under their divorce agreement.

While Giuliani now claims that the checks he presented in court prove he paid his ex-wife, Katz again urged him to go through the process that took so long.

“I don’t understand why it takes two months to get checks from Citibank,” the judge said.

‘I can request my bank details by entering an access code on the computer. I don’t understand why there is such a delay,” he added.

“I’m in a dramatically different position than before,” Giuliani said. ‘Those amounts are catastrophic, but also completely false.’

Judith’s attorney said they had just received the proof and would need some time to verify the checks to calculate how much more is owed.

She demands that Rudy pay the $262,000 he allegedly owes her with interest, but says he has not been consistent with the payments, even claiming that a check he paid her for $10,000 in July was returned. .

Judith and her lawyer also continued to request that Giuliani be held in contempt of court, but Katz said he would see how much Giuliani still has to pay before making a decision.

“I don’t feel like taking anyone into custody until I’m sure they really haven’t fulfilled their obligation,” Katz said.

Outside the courthouse, Giuliani told reporters that the hearing “went very well” and even said he may have overpaid his ex-wife.

‘The judge lifted the wrong one’ [contempt] order based on false statements from her,” Giuliani said.

“As you can see, it’s not true that I owed $200,000 or $300,000. At most, it’s probably closer to $20,000 — if it is,” he added.

The lawsuit also noted that their divorce agreement requires both of them to pay their own club fees and that Rudy reportedly “failed to pay his half of the annual club membership dues.”

“I had no choice but to pay his share of the dues,” Judith said of the $70,000 she allegedly paid on Rudy’s behalf. “To maintain a good reputation with the clubs.”

The legal battle comes as Rudy was ordered to testify before a Georgia special jury investigating former President Donald Trump’s alleged attempts to undo the 2020 election results.

Rudy’s law license has been suspended in both New York and Washington DC as he faces ethical charges over his false election claims. He was also sued by Dominion Voting Systems for $1.3 billion after alleging their voting machines had been tampered with.

Despite his recent legal troubles, Judith is “confident” that Rudy can afford to pay her what she asked for.

The couple had a controversial divorce in April 2018 after 15 years of marriage. They saved over their joint fortune which was estimated to be $30 million.

During the divorce, Judith’s lawyers accused Rudy of working for free as a Trump attorney in an effort to cut his income and lower his $42,000 monthly alimony payments.

Judith also accused Rudy of stealing her heirloom Christmas decoration collections. He accused her of stealing the TV remotes and cable box so he couldn’t watch TV.

Their divorce was finalized in December 2019, but details of the agreement were not made public. Judith was given the couple’s Hamptons home, which she later sold for $5 million.

Meanwhile, Rudy has been called to testify before a grand jury investigating Trump’s alleged attempts to reverse the 2020 election results.

“It is hereby ordered that Rudolph William Louis Giuliani shall appear and testify” before the grand jury in the Superior Court of Georgia in Fulton County, beginning August 9, the injunction filed on July 20, said after Rudy, who attempted the subpoena to block , failed to appear at a New York hearing.

The Georgia special grand jury has subpoenaed Senator Lindsey Graham and members of Trump’s former legal team, including Rudy.

The investigation was launched after Trump was included in a Jan. 2, 2021 phone call, pressuring Georgia’s secretary of state to reverse the state’s election results based on unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud.

Rudy led Trump’s legal efforts to reverse the election results in multiple swing states, including Georgia, which were won by President Joe Biden.

In the appeal, Trump urged Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, a fellow Republican, to “find” enough votes to reverse his loss in Georgia to Democrat Biden.
