Girl killed after being hit by out-of-control truck at a Christmas Parade in North Carolina

A Christmas parade in North Carolina has been canceled after a float driver in the parade lost control of his truck and accidentally hit and killed a young girl.

The driver is charged with death by motor vehicle, careless and reckless driving, improper equipment, unsafe movement and carrying a firearm during a parade.

Police confirmed that the girl was hit by the truck as it was traveling at low speed, and despite life-saving efforts, the girl died. No other paradegoers were injured.

Videos show the moments when the truck failed to stop and proceeded to charge into a crowd of dancers, with the driver yelling out the window that he couldn’t brake.

Witnesses said the white truck carrying the CC& Co. Dancecar was the one who lost control, and dancers in neon green outfits can be seen panicking near the car.

The dance company released a statement saying, “We are still in shock as we write you these words. We also know that many of our young people witnessed this tragedy and that is also difficult to fathom.’

The statement asked people to “reach out to each other” and “pray for our dancing families.”

They also asked people to “please refrain from passing judgment on what happened until we know more and the authorities have completed their investigation.”

“What we do know is that our hearts are broken and we need to find ways to help each other through this,” the statement continued.

We never expected to see a day like today, and the only thing that will get us through is the amazing thing we saw at our CC & Co. Dance family,” the statement concluded.

Other videos show bystanders and officers springing into action, running to physically stop the runaway truck, which eventually came to a stop in the road.

The video showed six men bravely jumping in front of the truck and slowing it down by pushing it.

The dance troupe had 200 performers in the parade, some of whom were as young as 5 years old.

Raleigh Police Department released a statement saying, “Our thoughts go out to the victim’s family and those who witnessed this tragic incident. The victim’s family has asked for privacy at this very difficult time.”

The accident happened on Hillsborough Road at Boylan Avenue in North Carolina’s capital, Raleigh.

Police have asked pedestrians and local residents to avoid the area as the intersection is closed indefinitely.

Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin said her heart “hurts for the young girl who was hit in a tragic accident on the parade route.”

“Today started with such joy. The Raleigh Christmas Parade puts a smile on so many faces. My heart was so full,” she complained.

Baldwin said she is “praying for her, her family and our community.”

A witness told ABC 11: “It was just a lot of chaos, just a lot of cops running, people running… It was crazy. It was traumatizing.’

The Raleigh Christmas Parade has been officially canceled due to the incident.
