An 8-year-old girl fights for her life after throwing herself off rocks at a popular beach as her father desperately tries to rescue her from the waves.

An eight-year-old girl is fighting for her life after slipping off rocks at a popular Australian tourist beach.

The girl fell from rocks at North Stradbroke Island’s Point Lookout into the water on Saturday.

Her father jumped in after her and found her unconscious, holding her head above the water as they waited for help.

It is believed that it was dragged along the rocks and submerged in the water for a period of time.

Footage shared by Channel 7 captured the moment her father and another man jumped in to save the girl, while another member of the public tossed a flotation device at the trio.

Rescuers on jet skis arrived at the scene around 11:30 a.m. and began resuscitating the girl on a rescue sled as they brought her back to shore.

QAS confirmed that she was airlifted to Queensland Children’s Hospital in critical condition, and her father was transported by road to a nearby hospital.
