A little girl was shot dead Saturday while playing outside her Chicago apartment by a man who lived in her neighborhood.

Sarabi Medina, eight, was playing on her scooter with her father outside her apartment in Portage Park, Chicago, when she was approached by a gunman at 8:40 p.m. and shot in the head.

She was preparing to enter fourth grade at Reinberg Elementary School when she was shot during the “entirely unprovoked” attack. Her mother also died in 2018 due to gun violence.

The child was rushed to the hospital from her home at 3500 block of North Long Avenue, where she was pronounced dead.

Witnesses said the little girl had just taken an ice cream cone out of a truck just before she was shot.

Michael Goodman was arrested shortly after the ordeal. He lives on the same block where the shots were fired. He is due to appear in court on Monday and is charged with first-degree murder.

Destiny Hill, the family’s neighbor, told them Fox 32: ‘She was sweet, she just rode her scooter up and down the sidewalk smiling. An innocent, innocent girl who didn’t deserve that.

Rene Aquino, a friend of the victim’s father, Michael Medina, said, “She was his world.”

After they heard a gunshot, he recalled, “He says to his daughter, by the way, get your scooter, come on, you’re going up, go up.”

“He wasn’t even halfway through the doorway when Ben said, ‘Look out, this guy just came out of the building, he’s got a gun in his hand.’

They then saw the gunman come within range of the little girl.

He said, “When he raised the gun, Mike saw him and said, ‘That’s my daughter!’

“Mike starts walking towards him, he walks over and shoots her right in the head.”

Mike, Sarabi’s father, then tackled the suspect.

The gun went off again and shot the suspect in the face.

Sue Kyser, who lives nearby, told ABC 7, “For what reason did you kill an innocent child, an innocent girl?

“Now these parents have to grieve for their baby and everything else, and every time they turn and look, they know it was across the street.

“Nobody lets their kids play here.

“People don’t take their kids to this park because they’re terrified. We just wanted to pay our respects to her and her family. But it’s just crazy.’
