Girl, 6, screams for brother, 9, to brake moments before he is struck and fatally injured by a truck near their Texas home

  • Surveillance footage captured the tragic moment Benjamin Dennis, 9, rode his bike onto the road before he was hit by a passing truck outside his San Leon home
  • The gruesome video also shows his 6-year-old sister Savannah screaming for him to stop just before the fatal collision

A harrowing video captured a six-year-old girl shouting at her nine-year-old brother to brake his bike moments before he was fatally injured by a truck outside their home.

Savannah Dennis could be heard making an anguished cry for brother Benjamin outside their home in San Leon, Texas, Monday night as they prepared for an adult bike ride. The children’s mother was inside cooking at the time.

The little girl told a heartbreaking story about how she tried to help her brother after he was beaten KTRK: ‘I was standing there right next to the road, so I ran up the road, and I called his name, and I dragged him out from behind the truck so it didn’t run over him again.’

Benjamin was rushed to hospital, where he was declared brain dead by doctors on Thursday and taken off life support. The youngster, a fourth-grade student, received donated organs.

Benjamin’s bicycle is left on the road outside his home for hours after Monday night’s accident that resulted in his tragic death

It is the third death in less than a month at the same notoriously dangerous intersection, with Benjamin’s affected family now calling for a traffic light to be installed there.

Benjamin’s mother, Sarah Touchet, ran outside to help as soon as she realized what had happened.

Through tears, she recalled, “I just kept breathing and begging him to stay.”

Benjamin’s family is now campaigning for a traffic stop to prevent further accidents at the dangerous intersection.

It is located on a bend just off a busy road, with motorists unable to slow down when coming off the road leading to it.

“You could look at the video and tell me he never saw it,” said Nancy Suffield, Benjamin’s grandmother. “He didn’t know he had hit someone until afterwards, and it was too late.”

“I was standing right there next to the road, so I ran out into the road, and I screamed his name, and I dragged him out from behind the truck so it wouldn’t run over him again,” said heartbroken Savannah

“You could look at the video and tell me he never saw it,” said Nancy Suffield, Benjamin’s grandmother

“I can’t bring my grandson back,” Suffield said.

“That’s why we’re asking someone to reach out and make this happen. Please help us get this done.”

The family said traffic speed is a constant problem on the road outside their home, which has a speed limit of 50mph.

Less than a month before the accident that killed Benjamin, two people were also killed in a motorcycle accident at the intersection.

Touchet, who was home at the time, said she ran outside to help.
