A 12-year-old girl on her way to a wedding was kidnapped and raped before she was brutally murdered with her head smashed against a boulder in a horrific attack in India.
The tribal girl was attacked and killed by unknown assailants in Deori Taluka village, Gondia, Maharashtra on Sunday.
The half-naked body of the Class 6 student was found decomposing near an armed outpost in Ganutola.
Since the tragic discovery, officers have been searching for clues as they desperately try to track down the attacker who fled the scene.
A blood-stained rock was found next to the body of the little girl who had been missing since April 19.
The child’s body was found on Sunday in Deori Taluka, Gondia, Maharashtra, India, after she had been missing since April 19.
The body had injuries to the head and lacerations to the face and neck, police said Times of India.
Police revealed that the boulder had not been moved, indicating that the girl was lifted up before her head and face were repeatedly smashed against it.
“She probably resisted the rape, which provoked a violent response from the perpetrators,” said an officer part of the investigation.
“This girl could have threatened to expose them or tried to raise the alarm,” she added.
The girl was reportedly on her way to a wedding in her area but was spotted riding on the back of a bicycle with someone around 8 p.m.
Villagers refused to identify the motorcyclist, according to local reports.
It comes as the body of a seven-year-old girl was also exhumed from a drain in Masuri, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, India on Sunday.
The child’s body was hidden from view by a pile of stones placed on top of it as it was only 50 meters away from her home.
An autopsy showed she was sexually assaulted before she was killed, according to police, who believe the attacker hit her in the head and dumped her body in a drain.
“The post-mortem report revealed that she suffered some injuries on the head, which led to her death,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Vivek Yadav said.
“The report also revealed that the girl had been sexually assaulted before being murdered.”
The little girl had been missing since Saturday evening after she was last seen by her family playing with other children.
“When it got dark, her parents started looking for her when she didn’t come home,” Yadav said.
‘They visited every house in the area but couldn’t find her. They then approached the police and filed a missing person complaint,” he added.
According to police, four teams have been formed in an attempt to nab the attacker.
“Police are also scanning CCTV cameras of nearby areas for clues,” Yadav said.
