Gio Reyna needs more playing time, Matt Turner would benefit from more consistency – and Miles Robinson is ready to jump across the pond and play in Europe: Six USA players who are ready to find new clubs in January

2024 will be a huge year for the United States Men's National Team, with an Olympics to play in and a Copa America to host.

This will lead to plenty of opportunities for the country's best football stars to show the world what they stand for at international level.

But in terms of the club situation for some of these players, a change could benefit many of those consistently chosen for Gregg Berhalter's roster.

From young players looking to break through to the next level to starters needing more playing time, there are plenty of names looking to switch clubs in the January transfer window.

Here are five players DailyMail.com thinks could look for a change of scenery this winter.

Matt Turner and Ethan Horvath

Let's start by pairing the two American goalkeepers currently plying their trade at Nottingham Forest, for one main reason: they both need consistent playing time.

For Matt Turner, the emphasis is on 'consistent'. He has battled for the starting spot with Odysseas Vlachodimos and only recently regained it under now-fired manager Steve Cooper. Now, under a new regime, it is difficult to determine where Turner will be in the pecking order.

He just moved permanently to Forest, so a move may not be too likely, but for the sake of the USMNT, they would prefer if their No. 1 goalkeeper gets playing time more often than not.

The same can be said for USMNT backup and Forest's third-choice goalkeeper Ethan Horvath.

Horvath performed well on loan at Luton Town and helped the Hatters gain promotion to the Premier League. But he returned to Forest after his loan expired and was not sent back.

While Turner's move would be favored, Horvath's is seen as a necessity. This is a step he must take to keep his career alive – whether in Europe or upon a return to the United States.

Miles Robinson

Miles Robinson is already on the open market after his contract with Atlanta United expired, meaning he is a free agent who can sign with anyone.

Robinson has been linked with FC Cincinnati in the MLS if he wants to stay home, but there is no indication whatsoever as to what his intentions are.

Of course, there are also foreign considerations to take into account and Robinson seems ready enough to make the leap across the pond.

Teams such as Mallorca in LaLiga and Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga were rumored to be interested in him in the past.

But a likely move could be to PSV Eindhoven – a team led by ex-USMNT general manager Earnie Stewart and featuring a number of Americans such as Ricardo Pepi, Malik Tillman and Sergino Dest.

John Tolkin

The New York Red Bulls are reportedly keen to retain John Tolkin, but almost all indications are that the 21-year-old will make a move abroad despite having a contract that expires in 2027.

Tolkin is a promising and highly skilled full-back who is able to push up the pitch and provoke attacking counter-attacks.

He made his debut with the USMNT earlier this year – and his performances with the youth teams have been equally impressive. He will also likely be included in the Olympic team.

RBNY reportedly rejected an offer from Mainz for him last summer and Red Bull Salzburg is said to be the natural progression for the New Jersey native. Other clubs reportedly interested in him include Sheffield United and West Bromwich Albion.

Brandon Vazquez

Another player who made his USMNT debut this year was FC Cincinnati forward Brandon Vazquez, who has expressed his desire to go to Europe.

Vazquez scored 17 goals in 40 games in a season in which Cincinnati won the Supporters Shield as the best team of the regular season.

Bundesliga giants Borussia Mönchengladbach were reportedly so interested in him that sporting director Roland Virkus came to the US to watch him play.

But recent rumors indicate he could be heading to Brentford, a team in need of a dynamic striker after injuries to Bryan Mbeumo and Kevin Schade and a suspension for Ivan Toney.

Gio Reyna

It's the least likely step to happen. There are no rumors of suitors. Such a move would certainly not be permanent.

But for a player of Gio Reyna's talents, only 318 minutes in eleven games (an average of around 29 minutes per game) is a situation crying out for a transfer.

Reyna missed five games at the start of the year due to a muscle injury, but since then he has made just one start and has had virtually no opportunities to prove his worth.

If he leaves Borussia Dortmund, expect it to be a similar move to what Weston McKennie made last season when he joined Leeds United on loan from Juventus.
