Gino D’Acampo admitted he was close to being ‘cancelled’ by fans, but insisted he ‘doesn’t care’ what people think.
The 46-year-old Italian television chef became known for his cheeky innuendo after rising to fame on This Morning and has since hosted a variety of popular cooking shows.
But Gino claimed he came very close to getting hit by cancel culture for his cheeky jokes, saying he walks “dangerously” on the “fine line” with his humor.
Humor: Gino D’Acampo admitted he was close to being ‘cancelled’ by fans, but insisted he ‘doesn’t care’ what people think
He said Sun: ‘There’s a fine line in television and I think I walk the line, I’ve been walking that line for the last ten or 15 years.’
Gino said he thinks he “gets away with it” on TV a lot more than other people because viewers have known him for about 15 years.
However, he insisted that he never “crossed the line” with his jokes, saying he would have been “fired” if he had.
He said: “But I can get away with the accent and because I’m Gino and everyone has known me for a long time, I can get away with a lot that someone else couldn’t get away with.”

Advising other people to ignore cancel culture, he added: “What they should do is, instead of fighting cancel culture, it’s the way I do it: ‘I don’t care what you have to say,’ that It’s what I think.” .’
The television personality, soon to hit screens with his new show Gino’s Cooking Up Love, is well known for his on-air innuendo.
Earlier this year, he left viewers in hysterics while hosting a question-and-answer segment, Ask Gino, on ITV’s morning chat show.
Provided tongue-in-cheek words of advice to a woman seeking advice on a relationship based on food.
Career: The 46-year-old Italian TV chef (pictured here in 2017) became known for his cheeky advances after rising to fame on This Morning and has since hosted a number of popular cooking shows.
Naomi, from Essex, explained how she liked fish, while her partner of two months preferred sausages, namely chipolatas, which she “doesn’t know what to do with”.
The frustrated caller said, ‘I don’t want a small sausage!’ to which Gino replied, ‘You want a sausage you can handle.’
Comments bounced back and forth, and Naomi agreed with Gino: ‘Yeah, meaty. I don’t see the benefits of a tiny little thing.
Holly then chimed in, joking: I really like the chipolata!
Gino then offered his advice, saying, ‘It’s what you do with the chipolata. I always go for a large sausage because you keep the moisture in.’
An amused Phillip quipped, “If you’re not happy with the sausage you’re buying, then go get a bigger one.”
As the TV presenters laughed, Gino concluded: ‘Take control of your sausages from now on!’
But in November, This Morning viewers accused Gino of being ‘xenophobic’ for claiming he didn’t like the French.
Hints: Gino said he thinks he “gets away” with a lot more on TV than other people because viewers have known him for about 15 years.
He made the revelation about his disgust for the French nation while cooking a chicken cordon bleu during a segment.
Despite the fact that the dish was considered French, Gino insisted that it was not before going on a tirade about the country.
He said: ‘Not that I have to explain myself, but this is called pollo impanato, which is stuffed chicken breast. Now the French call it blah blah blah, but it’s actually impanato chicken.
Fighting back: Advising others to ignore cancel culture, he added: “What they should do is, instead of fighting cancel culture, it’s the way I do it: ‘I don’t care what you have to say.
Besides, everyone knows that I will never cook a French dish. I don’t like to cook food from other nations.
“I’m going to be honest with you, apart from my friend Fred Sirieix, I don’t like the French.”
He added: ‘Too close to Italy, they always think that whatever they do is the best. There is no need for French in the world.
Controversial: In November, viewers of This Morning accused Gino of being ‘xenophobic’ for claiming he didn’t like the French.
On Twitter, one viewer wrote: “Imagine the outrage if Gino Decampo [sic] said, I don’t like Pakistani people, or I don’t like African people, he would (rightly) be branded as a racist. But it’s absolutely fine to say I don’t like the French.
Another added: ‘Tell me how Gino Decmapo [sic] Are you allowed to be racist on your show? If a Brit said the same, Holly or Phil would have criticized him.
Gino has been appearing on the ITV show since 2009, with additional credits including Let’s Do Lunch, There’s No Taste Like Home and Gino’s Italian Escape.
