Giants QB Tommy DeVito says his benching during the loss to the Eagles was a ‘reminder that it’s a business’ after whirlwind few weeks in New York

New York Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito said being benched during the 33-25 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles was a reminder of the ruthless business of the NFL.

'It is heavy. It's a constant reminder that it's a business,” DeVito said. “They will always try to find someone to replace you, wherever they are.”

'At the same time, it is a business. It's your job. I respect it. There are no hard feelings one way or the other. I hoped [Taylor] would go out there and ball and we would win the game. It's nothing more than that. That's all.'

DeVito was benched at halftime during the loss to the Eagles after the Giants compiled just 101 yards of offense and three points in the first half of the game.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll said his reasoning for the changed QB was “just try to fire up the team.” I don't really have anything else to add. I just did it to boost the team.'

The Giants then scored a touchdown on their first possession of the second half before fighting their way back into the game after trailing 20-3 at halftime.

Veteran backup Tyrod Taylor finished the game 7-of-16, passing for 133 yards, a touchdown and an interception that came on a Hail Mary on the final play of the game.

When asked who the Giants starter moving forward would be, Daboll previously said, “I'm just worried about [Monday] here. That's what we'll talk about here this week,” and he has yet to comment on who will be his starter moving forward.

DeVito and Taylor both seemed focused on their preparation heading into the week and acknowledged that the decision on who will start against the Los Angeles Rams on New Year's Eve is out of their hands.

“We're going to work, watch film and do all that,” DeVito said. “Ultimately it's not mine or Tyrod's decision, it's the coaches' decision.”

'For me it's just work. “I just go out and I try to enjoy it every day,” he said. “I've said it before and I'll say it again: you never know when a photo will be your last, so I try to go out and make the most of every photo when I'm there. I appreciate every shot I made and I just try to keep moving forward.”

Since taking over as the Giants starter after injuries to Taylor and Daniel Jones, DeVito has thrown eight touchdown passes and three interceptions through six starts.

After joining the Giants as an undrafted free agent after playing in college at Syracuse, DeVito's Cinderella run culminated when he upset the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football to give New York their third win over row led.
