An original anime series based on the PlayStation franchise Ghost of Tsushima comes from Crunchyroll, Aniplex, Sony Music and PlayStation Productions, the companies announced Monday at Sony’s CES 2025 press conference. The anime series, which will debut in 2027, will be based on Ghost of Tsushima: Legendsthe cooperative multiplayer mode released for the original Ghost of Tsushima in 2020.

The series is directed by director Takanobu Mizuno, whose previous work includes: Star Wars: Visions And Batman Ninja. The story composition is by General Urobuchi (Fate/zero, Psycho Pass) and animation are provided by studio Kamikaze Douga.

Rahul Purini, president of Crunchyroll, said in a press release that the Ghost of Tsushima anime “offers fans an exciting new way to experience the game in an anime style that will be bold and groundbreaking.”

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends lets players choose from four classes (Samurai, Hunter, Ronin, or Assassin) and take part in two-player story missions, four-player survival missions, and a raid. Ghost of Tsushima developer Sucker Punch Productions released Legends mode in October 2020 as a free update to the game, and later released Legends as a standalone multiplayer game for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

In addition to the PlayStation Productions anime series, Sony Pictures is developing a film adaptation Ghost of Tsushima. John Wick film series director Chad Stahelski will direct the project. PlayStation Productions is the production arm of Sony Interactive Entertainment and is responsible for production Not mapped, The last of us, Gran TurismoAnd Twisted metal to live action. Ghost of Tsushima will be PlayStation Productions’ first anime adaptation.

Sucker Punch is currently working on a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima called Spirit of Yotei. The sequel is scheduled for release on PS5 sometime in 2025.
