‘I just wanted to clear my name’: Gervonta Davis was unconcerned that his fight with Hector Garcia was called off after the arrest as he is set to return to the ring after the accuser recanted the domestic violence allegations.
Gervonta Davis revealed that he remained calm regarding the future of Saturday night’s lightweight title fight against Hector Luis Garcia after he was arrested and charged with domestic violence.
While it was certainly an unpleasant experience, Davis remained focused on clearing his name before putting his energy into preparing for the anticipated fight.
“I wasn’t worried,” Davis told reporters at Thursday’s news conference. ‘I just wanted to clear my name. That is. That is.’
A woman who identified herself as the mother of boxer Gervonta Davis’ son has recanted domestic violence allegations against him following a recent 911 call he made before his December 27 arrest. She still faces a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence for assault causing bodily harm.
Gervonta Davis has had to weather a media and legal storm ahead of Saturday night’s fight.
“I feel like everything is a learning experience,” Davis said, via BoxingScene. ‘You know what I mean? I am only human. I am not perfect. You know what I mean? The accusations were false.
“So, I feel like we continue to focus on the main course and that’s Hector. And then once we have Hector, it’s definitely Ryan Garcia.
Vanessa Posso released a statement on Instagram on December 30, insisting that Davis “did no harm to me or our daughter.”
A recording of the alleged victim’s 911 call was published by TMZ: ‘He’s going to kill me!… I need help, please! I’m trying to go home. I have my baby in the car and she attacked me in front of the child. And now she’s ruining my tires!

Posso now says that Davis is not guilty of domestic violence.
“These past few days have been painful and extremely exhausting for all parties involved,” he wrote. ‘I pride myself on being extremely private; this situation was the last thing he wanted to be made public.
“Our relationship has been in a fragile space and Gervonta and I were to blame for the argument,” he continued. “While emotions were running high, I made an unnecessary call to the police at an intense time while I was in a frenzy. Gervonta did not harm me or our daughter.

‘Today, we have sought the necessary help to move on with our lives. I am confident that we will be successful in our co-parenting dynamic with the advice given to us.’
Davis, one of boxing’s biggest stars, will defend his WBA (regular) lightweight title against Hector Garcia on Saturday in what is billed as a setup fight before a delicious clash with longtime rival Ryan Garcia (23 -0) in April.
Both fights were on the line after the undefeated 28-year-old was arrested in Fort Lauderdale, but Davis confirmed Friday that next weekend’s fight is underway.
