Billionaire Gerry Harvey has criticized the country’s politicians, saying they are ill-equipped to deal with the country’s rising cost of living because they have never had a real job.

The executive chairman of Harvey Norman said he was continually frustrated by the standard of leaders running the country and felt they should be paired with proven business leaders with a track record of financial success.

“I think it’s a bit of a shame that all of our politicians come mainly from unions or lawyers, and union people have never run a business, and the lawyers have never run a business,” Mr. Harvey told ADH TV host Chris Smith. Wednesday.

‘Now we put them together, the little mixtures there… and you think to yourself, “Oh, they make a lot of mistakes. How can we help them?” They desperately need help.

“Let’s get a whole bunch of business people to be advisors… and you can’t be a minister unless you have a business advisor to help you, because you make too many mistakes.”

The maverick entrepreneur and former vacuum cleaner salesman, who founded his iconic retail chain in 1982, went on to suggest that ministers would ideally need an experienced businessman to sign off on all their plans before any action was taken.

‘It’s a bit like if you have (US President Donald) Trump in charge: you say to the minister: ‘Okay, you can’t do anything unless you get permission, whatever you want to do, I’ll give it a tick. or you don’t,” Mr Harvey told Smith.

“And maybe then we’ll get a little bit more of a country that’s run in a business-like way, because right now some of the things they’re doing, and you just look and you’re like, ‘Oh, they didn’t do that.’ do that,” but they did.”

Although the outspoken octogenarian retailer admitted he wasn’t particularly impressed with President Trump, he thought Europe consistently produced the world’s best leaders with proven business acumen.
