Harry Kane dominated the back pages of the German press on Saturday after a goal-scoring start to his Bundesliga career.

Bayern Munich’s new £100 million man scored his side’s second goal in their 4-0 win against Werder Bremen as they got off to the perfect start to their defense of the German title.

After setting up Leroy Sane’s opener in the 4th minute, the England captain opened his account for his new club on 74 minutes when he checked a pass from Alphonso Davies before sliding into Werder’s net on a slight deflection.

The former Tottenham Hotspur player celebrated in a typically demure manner, a face that will surely be familiar to Bundesliga fans soon.

Sane scored again in the 90th minute before Mathys Tel, who replaced Kane with five minutes to play, sealed a convincing victory with a stoppage-time goal.

Bild’s headline read ‘Yes, he Kane! New Bayern superstar produces and scores’.

Their report on Bayern’s win included a line about how Kane ‘broke a curse’ by scoring in his first league game for his new club after failing to do so at Tottenham, Leyton Orient, Millwall, Norwich and Leicester.

It also details how Kane recorded the fifth-fastest assist in Bundesliga history by setting up Sane with just his second touch of the match.

The media reaction could hardly have been more different from last weekend, when Kane made his first Bayern appearance, coming on as a substitute in the 3-0 defeat to RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup.

The 30-year-old only completed his move to the German giants on game day, playing the final 27 minutes at the Allianz Arena.

He has since explained that he moved to Bayern to ‘fight for titles’, while his wife Kate took to social media for a behind-the-scenes look at the Kane family’s first week in Germany.

Looking back at his first taste of Bundesliga action, Kane recounted Sky Sports: ‘It was fantastic. There’s been a lot of talk and build up about this game. It started well early with the goal. It was heavy.

“We created some good chances, but missed the final product.

“We stayed calm, scored the second goal and the boys finished it from the bench. It was the perfect start, I’m looking forward to the next game.’

Kane will make his home league debut against Augsburg on Sunday, August 27, and the striker says he can already feel a difference between the German football crowd and their English counterparts.

He said: “The fans from both sides were incredible throughout the game, very different from some of the Premier League atmospheres I’ve experienced.”
