German newspaper BILD has called for the dismissal of national coach Hansi Flick after the humiliating 4-1 defeat at home to Japan in a friendly match.

It means that Germany have only achieved four wins from their last seventeen matches.

Germany were eliminated in the group stages of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and were lucky to qualify for the 2024 European Championship as they were automatically awarded the title as they will host next summer’s tournament.

BILD has issued a scathing assessment of Flick and called on the German Football Federation to fire Flick immediately.

They wrote on their website: ‘Only four wins from the last seventeen games and an embarrassing World Cup preliminary round result in Qatar – Hansi Flick is the worst national coach of all time.’

BILD said that “enough was enough” for Flick and that there is “no alternative to an immediate divorce.”

They added, “Flick has experimented with everything this year. None of his ideas worked on the field. And he has taken away the players’ security and self-confidence.

‘Fortunately, as a host country we are automatically qualified for the 2024 European Championship. Otherwise we probably wouldn’t be there at all. In 2006 it was said that the world was a guest of friends, and Europe as a guest of losers would be appropriate at this time.’

BILD broke down his decisions and questioned the form of key players, including Ilkay Gündogan, who has struggled for Germany despite leading Man City to a Treble before his summer move to Barcelona.

They highlighted how Niklas Sule was recalled despite being publicly criticized by Flick in the past, as well as the omission of Leon Goretzka despite his strong performances at Bayern Munich.

BILD said the best option to replace Flick, Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp, is not available, so the best solution would be Matthias Sammer ahead of Eintracht Frankfurt’s Julian Nagelsmann and Oliver Glasner.

Sammer has not held a management role since 2005 after coaching Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmund, but has since held behind-the-scenes roles at the German Football Association and Bayern Munich.

The director of the German national team, Rudi Voller, criticized his performance against Japan in Wolfsburg on Saturday.

Voller, who was part of Germany’s 1990 World Cup-winning squad, was far from impressed by the nature of the defeat to Japan and expects a much better performance against France.

As reported by Sports1, he said, “We can’t shit our pants right now. We are Germany.

‘No one has to be afraid on Tuesday. The boys can do it, they all play for top clubs.’

Voller also said in his speech to the press that losing 4-1 is a ‘shame’ and that he will speak to Flick on Sunday.

He said: We are all still in shock. Losing 4-1 is a shame.

‘We all need to take a good look at ourselves and see what happens next. We would all do well to sleep on it tonight.

‘I just spoke to Hansi, he is deeply affected. We’ll talk tomorrow about why that happened. That was a shame.’
