Man United loanee Jadon Sancho was branded the ‘worst player on the pitch’ by the German media after his cameo in Borussia Dortmund’s recent league defeat.

Sancho struggled to make an impact as Dortmund lost 3-2 to Hoffenheim on Sunday evening as Maximilian Beier hit a brace to earn three points for the visitors.

The United outcast made his seventh appearance of the campaign for the Black and Yellows since returning on loan during the January transfer window.

While many expected the winger to rediscover his previous form at Dortmund after playing there between 2017 and 2021, the opposite has happened.

Despite providing two assists in his first two games, he has since failed to score a goal and is now criticized for his performances.

About Sancho’s cameo, German media outlet The West wrote: ‘BVB were so happy when Jadon Sancho was brought back during the last winter transfer window. The prodigal son is finally back.

‘He really put the fans in a state of euphoria. A few weeks later it is no longer noticeable. Against TSG Hoffenheim, supporters hoped that the 23-year-old would finally score his first goal.

‘But they were disappointed again. The BVB star showed another poor performance against Hoffenheim and was probably the worst player on the pitch.’

Sancho played 75 minutes of the match before being substituted into the match, having failed to register a shot on target or an accurate cross for teammates.

The England international returned to his former club last month after United manager Erik ten Hag fell out with the £73million winger.

United may want to offload Sancho this summer, but Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has already all but ruled out making his loan permanent.

Kehl said the situation was similar with Chelsea loanee Ian Maatsen.

‘Unfortunately for both players, neither option was realistic. “If you know what we got for Jadon Sancho two and a half years ago, you know it might not be that difficult,” he said. Sky Sports Germany.

‘We have of course argued for an option on him – and also on Ian – but the negotiating position was not such that we could implement it and so we will accept it for the time being.’

United are keen to see Sancho perform strongly in Dortmund, should they decide to cut their losses with the £73m striker in the summer.

It is highly unlikely that they will recoup their full stake on a player who struggled to reach the top during his two full seasons at Old Trafford.
