A gang of youths are still on the run after a young German backpacker was assaulted with garden tools and attempted robbery late at night in a beachside suburb.
The 24-year-old tourist was confronted by a group of up to five young men wearing face coverings at a toilet block in Bluff Point, a suburb of Geraldton in Western Australia’s mid-west, around 10.30pm on Monday evening.
The man told police the group demanded his clothing and jewelry and threatened to cut off his arm with a garden tool if he did not comply.
The tourist was attacked during the short fight and hit on the head with the garden tools, the Geraldton Guard reported.
The group eventually left the scene of the disaster empty-handed.
The victim suffered a large cut to his forehead and bruising and had to be treated in hospital.

The attack took place late at night at a public toilet block (pictured) in Bluff Point in the mid-west of Western Australia.
The young people are still on the run, more than 24 hours later.
Police believe the group was in the Beresford and Bluff Point areas around the time of the incident.
Locals are urged to check their CCTV footage and their sheds and garages to see if any garden tools have been stolen.
