Georgia Republican Governor Brian Kemp on Thursday declined calls to call an emergency session of the general assembly to “DEFUND” or impeach Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.

Several far-right Republican lawmakers in the state have called on Kemp to act after a grand jury convened by Willis indicted former President Donald Trump and 18 of his allies on Aug. 14 on charges related to their attempts to win President Joe’s victory. to undo Biden.

At a news conference Thursday, Kemp noted that a trial was already underway in Georgia if voters believed a prosecutor engaged in “unethical or illegal conduct.”

“So far I have not seen any evidence that DA Willis’ actions, or lack thereof, warrant action by the prosecution’s oversight committee,” Kemp said.

He said he believed what the Republicans were calling for would be unconstitutional.

“As long as I’m governor, we will follow the law and the Constitution no matter who this policy helps or harms,” Kemp said.

Kemp also reminded reporters that he had previously rejected calls to hold a special session to contest the 2020 election results “because such action would have been unconstitutional.”

Kemp did not succumb to pressure in the aftermath of the 2020 election, which caused a rift with Trump.

“In Georgia, we will not engage in political theater that merely fuels the emotions of the moment,” the Republican said. ‘We will do what is right. We will honor our oath to public service.

“And I am convinced that our state will be better off,” he added.

Trump ally, Georgia Senator Colton Moore, was praised by the former president on Wednesday for pushing for a special session.

Trump thanked Moore for his “courage” in fighting the “mads.”

“PRESIDENT TRUMP IS WITH ME! He knows my call for an emergency session to expose the corrupt Fani Willis is the right move,” Moore wrote on X, the site formerly known as Twitter. “Unfortunately, the Georgian REPUBLICANS are blocking my efforts. This is madness. No more empty promises. The people want ACTION.’

Trump also thanked the people of Georgia “for putting up with this nonsense.”

With this avenue to punish Willis closed, Trump’s allies may have to look to Congress.

Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene told DailyMail.com last week that she was talking to James Comer, Chairman of the House Oversight, Jim Jordan, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and Chairman Kevin McCarthy about launching a new investigation when lawmakers return to Capitol Hill in September.

“Look at the real collusion and conspiracy that is happening between the Justice Department and state prosecutors because they are actually abusing the law and the justice systems, not only at the federal level but also in the state,” she said.

“I want to know how much coordination is going on between them and it’s all in an attempt to attack President Trump. And it’s totally unfair and it’s a weaponization of our government, all for politics.”

She called the charges against Trump by the Justice Department, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and Willis “campaign contributions in kind” to Biden.
