A Georgia police chief who was caught on video body-slamming a student has been placed on paid leave by the DeKalb County School District.

DCSD Police Chief Brad Gober allegedly knocked the student to the ground after he appeared to dodge another officer’s attempt to grab his arm on September 1.

In the video, Gober is seen approaching the 17-year-old Redan High School student from behind and throwing him to the ground.

He was then handcuffed and escorted out of view of the camera. It is believed the other officer was a major.

Sources said Gober was the first to respond to a large fight in the front office that was not captured on video and warned the student not to intervene in the fight or he would be arrested.

The student's father said: 'The school has not said anything about that.  I didn't even know he was arrested.

Sources said Channel 2 that Gober was the first to respond to a large brawl in the front office that was not on video and warned the student not to intervene or he would be arrested.

The province said this in a statement ABC news: “The DeKalb County School District (DCSD) is aware of a recent video circulating in the media regarding an incident involving DCSD Police Chief Brad Gober.

“In accordance with standard procedure, Chief Gober has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of an internal investigation. This standard procedure ensures an integrated and impartial assessment of the incident.’

The student’s father told the story WSB TV: ‘The school didn’t say anything about that. I didn’t even know he was arrested.’

His father said he heard from friends that his son had been taken to the DeKalb County Jail. The student spent the weekend behind bars on charges of obstruction and damaging school property.

“I talked to him and he said he doesn’t know why they did it. I just have to look at it. I need to see the chef. I need to see someone,” the father said.

Police said in their statement that no further information about the investigation will be released to the public.
