A mother of three from Georgia has died more than two years after she disappeared on a hiking trail.

Olivia Samantha Fowler, 27, was last seen in a tie-dye shirt, shorts and flip flops while walking along Pebblebrook Road in Meriwether County on Aug. 13, 2021.

She was reported missing by her family the next day, but authorities have only just confirmed her death after human remains were found in the countryside in December.

DNA testing linked the remains to Fowler and her family were notified of her death on Monday.

Meriwether Sheriff Chuck Smith said officers had “met with and notified immediate family members” that Fowler’s death had been confirmed.

“While the outcome of Olivia Samantha Fowler’s disappearance is not what the family or the police wanted, this investigation remains active and ongoing,” he said.

Smith claimed there is still “a lot of evidence to be analyzed and processed,” but did not disclose how she died or if it happened under suspicious circumstances.

The case has been moved from a missing person case to a death investigation.

Relatives said Fowler disappeared after seeing a man she was dating.

Her aunt Tamara McCoy previously said, “Olivia loves family – loves, loves, loves her family.

“She’s an amazing mom with the biggest heart.”

The FBI joined the case in May 2022 before investigators received a tip and found her remains in a rural area of ​​the county in December.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Scene Unit helped recover her body, process the scene and perform an autopsy.

Authorities sent a sample of the DNA to the FBI Crime Lab, which confirmed that the remains were Fowler’s.

Sheriff Smith said: “The family asks that they may appropriately mourn this recent news and support them during this difficult time.

“The family would like the public to know that Olivia was not only a mother, but also a daughter, a sister, a grandchild and an important member of the Fowler family.”

Fowler’s aunt has put together a search party called “Olivia’s Army” to find her.

Her family also raised money to hire a private investigator by organizing car washes and organizing fundraisers.
