Georgia Love calls out cancel culture after losing her ‘dream job’ at Seven over ‘casual racism’ scandal – as she issues a grovelling apology and insists she never meant to offend anyone

The Bachelorette star Georgia Love has spoken out for the first time since the ‘casual racism’ scandal that saw her relieved of broadcasting duties at Channel Seven.

The former newsreader, 34, made headlines for all the wrong reasons in late 2021 when she posted a video of her asking if there was a cat on the menu at a Chinese restaurant after seeing the animal in the window.

Georgia, who chose to remain silent in the wake of the scandal, finally spoke up Stellar magazine this week to cancel culture while apologizing for her actions.

“I hate the term cancellation. To think that we have the ability to cancel someone – whether that means from their industry, their job, their family and friends. We don’t have the ability to do that,” she said.

Georgia said canceling culture is unfair because people are not given a chance to defend themselves in the “heat of the moment.”

Georgia also lamented the fallout from the scandal, telling the magazine, “I had my dream job. Every day I felt so lucky to be able to do what I loved and dreamed of doing for so long.”

“So to lose that broadcasting job — I continued to work with Seven, but I was taken off the air because of the fallout — was probably the hardest thing for me, because I’ve always put a lot of emphasis and focus on my job. and my career.’

Despite this, Georgia said it was never her intention to “deliberately upset or offend anyone,” and is “deeply sorry” for the upset it caused, adding: “I have done a lot of reflection. I learned a lot.

Georgia posted the controversial footage in September 2021 while visiting a Chinese restaurant in her hometown of Melbourne.

Georgia filmed a cat sitting in a diner’s window writing, “Shop clerk or lunch?!”

Critics claimed the images were offensive and perpetrated a harmful stereotype about Chinese people.

Georgia deleted the post and apologized after being called out by ‘influencer watchdog’ Instagram account Aussie Influencer Opinions.

The same account later discovered another post from Love from February 2013 in which she made a similar joke about pets and Asian restaurants.

Love’s 2013 post showed an “animal hospital” next to a restaurant called “China Chef.”

Below the photo of the two storefronts was a cartoon image of a dog, next to the text: “That’s suspicious…”

Love captioned it at the time: “Best.”

Love had previously apologized for her cat video but denied there was any racist “innuendo” behind it.

‘Earlier I posted a video of a cat in the window of a restaurant. I meant this was a joke about an animal sitting in a restaurant at lunchtime,” she said.

“I meant absolutely no innuendo about the type of animal or the type of restaurant, but I can see my post didn’t come across that way and was hurtful.

“I sincerely apologize for the inattention and offense I have caused. Thank you to those who called me. Here’s what we need to make sure we’re all accountable and doing better.

“Again, I apologize from the bottom of my heart for the offense caused.”
