Following the lead of Florida lawmakers, representatives in Georgia are trying to get their state's college football team involved in the College Football Playoff.
One state senator, Colton Moore, wrote an open letter demanding that the CFP adopt the Orange Bowl between Florida State and the University of Georgia as an additional playoff game this season.
“Your mandate is to send the four best teams in the country to the Playoff, and instead you have created a political mess with a decision based on bias against weaker conferences and teams that want nothing to do with playing of the Georgia Bulldogs,” Moore said. partly in his letter.
At the time of writing, Moore did not provide an answer or solution for how the addition of two teams to a four-team playoff would result in a clear way to determine a national champion.
Instead, he simply stated that he believed the 12-1 Georgia Bulldogs were one of the four best teams in the country and should not have been left out versus, say, undefeated Michigan, undefeated Washington, a Texas team with one loss and a team with one loss. -Lost Alabama team that Georgia lost to in the SEC Championship game.

While Moore's case for taking on Georgia is strong (first in the SEC in defense, top four in efficiency, top four in ESPN's Football Power Index, 29 wins just before losing the SEC title game), Kirby Smart ultimately went to the Hall of Fame, the chance to win three straight titles for the first time ever) they lose their legitimacy when you consider an undefeated Florida State team getting kicked out of the playoffs.
“The People of Georgia request that you allow The Orange Bowl to be activated as a College Football Playoff game and therefore postpone the National Championship by one week or otherwise make adjustments,” Moore said in closing his letter.
Moore may have felt emboldened by Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody announcing that her office was demanding information and communication from the CFP selection committee regarding the criticism of the state of Florida.
