George Santos’ mother was in BRAZIL on 9/11 despite New York Republicans claiming she was in the South Tower

The mother of Rep. George Santos said in a US government visa application that she was not even in the US at the time of the 9/11 attacks, despite her son’s claim that she “survived to the tragic events” of that day.

The revelation, which directly contradicts the claim made by the New York Republican who admitted to a series of fabrications, comes when a former New York Republican, Rep. Pete King, called him to resign, saying he was a “potential disaster” for the Republican Party and was “dragging the Republican caucus to a shameful place.”

Santos’ mother stated in a 2003 visa application to enter the US from Brazil that she had not been in the country since 1999, the Washington Post informed.

That was despite Santos’ claim on his campaign website: “George’s mother was in her office in the South Tower on September 11, 2001, when the horrifying events of that day unfolded.”

The site also said that she “survived the tragic events of 9/11, but passed away a few years later when she lost her battle with cancer.”

The unsubstantiated claim had an emotional impact on a Long Island district that lost many office workers and first responders during the 9/11 attacks.

Santos’s mother died in December 2016, when the son solicited donations to help pay for funeral expenses.

He also tweeted in 2021 that ‘9/11 took my mother’s life‘, although she died years after the attacks.
