A farmer and father of two has died in a horrific truck crash.

George Hassett, 30, was a passenger in a car that collided with a lorry on August 11 in heavy fog on the Hume Highway near Tarcutta, NSW.

The young father of two year-old twins was airlifted to Canberra Hospital in critical condition, suffering multiple injuries “that even the strongest young man we know would not eventually recover from”.

After almost a week of fighting for his life, Mr. Hassett sadly passed away on Thursday.

He was just months away from marrying his partner of four years Aly.

Mr. Hassett had selflessly decided that he would donate his organs when he died.

The family of a young farmer who was tragically killed in a horror car crash has revealed that they take some comfort in the fact that he was an organ donor and that his last gesture will help save lives. Pictured: George Hassett and partner Aly

George and Aly decided long ago that it would be their wish to donate organs to those in need and we all hope that the people out there who feel we now get some comfort and comfort from George’s gifts of life,” family friend wrote Meg Dean on A GoFundMe page set up for the family.

“George always took care of others.”

Mr. Hassett has always wanted to donate his organs, Aly said, and several potential recipients are about to be tested to see if they’re a match.

“He just has a huge personality, he’s so nice and understanding,” she told the Daily telegram.

“He’s just the best person you could ask for.”

The heartbroken fiancé revealed that the last thing Mr. Hassett said to her was “I love you.”

It was a short conversation where he asked her to tie off the horses, but more importantly, they then expressed their love for each other.

The pair were due to wed in the Southern Highlands in November and Aly still intends to legally change her name to her beloved fiancée’s name.

Aly said she and Mr. Hassett were very similar, loved horseback riding and country life.

In addition to her own grief, Aly must also take care of her twins, who will grow up without their father, although they are still too young to understand.

“They came to the hospital and recognized him before touching his hand and saying goodbye,” she said.

Mrs. Dean said that ‘George always looked after others.

“We’re asking people to please dig deep so we can help Aly and the boys through this horrible time, with overheads while Aly won’t be able to work as she will be taking care of her two little ones without George.”

One co-worker wrote that she had “worked with Aly many years ago.” I am really devastated for her and her beautiful boys.

Sending love and healing vibes during this time.

Another wrote that it was an “absolute tragedy.” Such a damn good man taken too soon.

“My condolences go out to his entire family and I will be thinking of you at this time.”
