George Clooney jokes that Julia Roberts got ‘a little annoying’ while filming Ticket To Paradise

George Clooney said he enjoyed filming his new movie with Julia Roberts, but joked that he was tired of her standing outside his Australian door every day.

The 61-year-old actor began talking about working with Julia, 51, again, while promoting their new movie Ticket To Paradise on CBS’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

‘It was fun for us to start shooting. Julia is a good friend,” George said.

George said they had all stayed on Hamilton Island but that he had brought his own with his wife and children Amal and Julia had come alone.

“At some point it gets a little annoying because she’s not with her family,” George said. “She comes up every morning and we have to bring her food and drive her around. At some point, it’s like Julia Roberts leaves me alone.’

“So many men have that problem,” Stephen joked.

George said he recently celebrated his eighth birthday with wife Amal by going out for dinner. He said he also bought her a present, but didn’t want to share what it was.

“I didn’t give her a house or anything like that,” George said.

Stephen said he had been to George’s house on Lake Como, where he said he had gotten more drunk than he intended.

“That was a nice evening,” George said. “Sasha (Baron Cohen) and Isla (Fisher) were there and showed up in lederhosen.”

“They were fueled up,” Stephen said.

“The funny thing about it is that it’s that joke you show and that’s funny, but then you have to wear that outfit all night,” George said. ‘That is not nice.’

Stephen asked him about his two five-year-old twins and George said they didn’t know he was an actor at the time.

“We kind of protected them from that,” George said. “My son, his favorite character is Batman and I told him you know I was Batman and he said ‘yes, no more.’

“And I was like, if you knew how right you were,” George said. “I tried to destroy that franchise. I almost did.’

“They don’t quite get what fun is, honestly,” George said.

George said his son liked chess.

“Speaking of friends, your best friend is Brad Pitt,” Stephen said.

“Oh, pretty boy Pitt,” George said.

Stephen then played a clip where Brad said George was one of the most handsome men in the world. Stephen asked him if he had anything to say about him.

“I’ll say I think I’m the most handsome man,” George said. ‘I’ll say I think his first answer was himself. And then someone said, ‘Let’s do that again. Don’t say to yourself ‘but he’s a good friend and he and I are about to make a movie together.’

Stephen asked about the fact that both he and Brad were getting pay cuts for this upcoming film so it would be released in theaters and asked why that was so important to appear on the big screen.

“There are certain movies in particular — horror movies, comedies — that are really best with a crowd with a group of people,” George said.

Stephen wanted to know more about his participation with Ethan Hawke in his documentary about Paul Newman. George said that Ethan still had the transcripts of the interviews that Paul destroyed and that actors did the voices.

He burned the tires,” George said of Paul. “He was recording all these conversations and then he decided not to and he burned the tapes.”

George voiced Paul Newman in the film.

“That doesn’t work out so well for me,” George said.

Stephen asked him if he’d ever worked with Ethan before. George revealed that they were going to make the movie The Notebook.

“We talked about it for a long time,” George said. “At some point I went home and I think I watched Cool Hand Luke or one of those great Paul Newman movies and I watch it and I’m as old as he was in Cool Hand Luke and I’m like” “I don’t look like Paul Newman.”

George also spoke about his philanthropic Clooney Foundation.

“Amal and I, we have a foundation, where we offer help through lawyers and stuff, and we follow up on lawsuits,” George said. ‘We are following trials in about 40 different countries. We try to shed light on things that you can get away with a lot after dark.’

George said they especially like to shine a light on journalists. He said at his most recent Albie Awards that they would recognize Filipino journalist Maria Rasa.

“She’s as brave as they can get,” George said. “She stands up for telling the truth in the Philippines, when the government is often complicated.”

George said she was in prison for 85 years.

“I’m worried about her,” George said. “She was a client of Amal and she won a Nobel Prize.”

The awards ceremony would be full of celebrities.

“We’ve got Michelle Obama, Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts, just people, nothing really,” George joked. “Bruce and Patty are going to sing.”

Ticket To Paradise is scheduled for release in the US on October 21 through Universal Pictures.
