Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith was taken to the locker room just before halftime of the team’s Monday Night Football game against the New York Giants.
Smith was tackled hard and late out of bounds by Giants safety Isaiah Simmons, leading to the Seahawks turning on Drew Lock.
It was all part of a wild sequence: Smith tried to throw a pass, but it was knocked down – right back into his own hands. He sprinted to the sideline, where Simmons hit him on his way out.
Simmons’ legs appeared to swing sideways and wrap under and around Smith’s legs, transferring the Giants defender’s body weight onto the quarterback.
After the tackle, Smith was seen staggering back to the play on the field – while there he was there towards the Giants players. He completed the rest of the series before Lock was brought in.

After being evaluated on the sideline tents, Smith was taken through the tunnel and to the locker room for further treatment and was listed as questionable to return.
With Lock in the game, Smith appeared to be walking along the sideline, but was then seen on a cart being taken to the locker room.
This is the same field where Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon in Week 1 of the NFL season.
Unlike the Rodgers injury – where the turf shares some of the blame – this one seems to fall squarely on the Giants’ Simmons – whose tricky tackle caused the injury.
Lock arrived in Seattle in the 2022 offseason via a trade with the Denver Broncos when the Seahawks gave up Russell Wilson.

With Lock – the former Missouri product – under center, Seattle drove downfield and punched in a touchdown to take a 14-3 lead with less than two minutes left in the first half.
The Seahawks had one more drive before the half was over, and Smith was not seen by the cameras.
Smith was drafted to the New York Jets out of West Virginia in 2013. He spent one season with the Giants before moving to the Chargers and then the Seahawks.
Last year, Smith won the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year award.
