Genndy Tartakovsky’s new steampunk fantasy show has a slick trailer

Adult Swim debuted the first trailer for Unicorn warriors foreverthe upcoming animated fantasy anthology series from Samurai Jack And primeval creator Genndy Tartakovsky, on Wednesday. The series, which premiered at the 2022 Annecy International Animation Film Festival and premiered at New York Comic Con last October, will premiere on Adult Swim on May 4 at midnight.

A 10-episode miniseries in the style of 2014 Over the garden wallsounds the premise of the supernatural steampunk animated action series reminiscent of Tartakovsky’s Sym Bionic Titan through the 2003 Samurai Jack episode ‘The Birth of Evil’. It centers on a team of primal heroes who repeatedly reincarnate throughout history to fight an ancient evil. The trailer describes Unicorn warriors forever as an animated series that is “a lifetime in the making”, which isn’t far from the truth. According to a press release, the origins of Tartakovsky’s new show date back to the beginning of his career at Cartoon Network.

“This show was created in my early days at Cartoon Network Studios, over 20 years ago,” Tartakovsky said in the press release. “All the projects we’ve worked on — Dexter’s laboratory, Samurai JackAnd Sym-Bionic Titan – were like a training ground to prepare for this series. It took all this time to finally get a show like Unicorn warriors forever.”

A bold statement, especially coming from a director often cited as one of the most prolific creators of American animation, whose aforementioned series – in particular Dexter’s laboratory And Samurai Jack – are considered by many to be one of the best animated TV series ever to air on Cartoon Network. Framing those series as a “training ground” for Unicorn warriors forever sets the bar high, but if anyone has proven to be able to live up to that claim, it’s Tartakovsky.
