General Hospital alum Jonathan Jackson set to return to Port Charles as Lucky Spencer this summer in what is expected to be a ‘long run’

Nearly ten years after his last appearance in Port Charles, Jonathan Jackson returns to the beloved soap opera General Hospital.

Jackson, 42, played the role of Lucky Spencer, the son of iconic soap opera characters Luke (Anthony Geary) and Laura Spencer (Genie Francis).

He made his GH debut in 1993 and was a regular on the soap until 1999, though he returned again from 2009 to 2011 before playing Avery Barkley on ABC’s Nashville.

Other actors like Jacob Young and Greg Vaughan were supposed to take turns playing Lucky, but now Jackson is returning this summer via Deadline.

General Hospital — which recently defended the casting of a black actress to racist trolls — recently told executive producer Frank Valenti ABC-7 at the Daytime Emmys said, “A former cast member is coming back. And I think the audience is going to go crazy for him,” that’s Jackson.

He has not been on the soap since 2015, when he appeared in a series of four episodes, but is now said to be back for ‘a long run’, the report said.

Jackson also confirmed the news himself in a social media post, writing: “I’m returning to @generalhospitalabc this summer! I’m glad the journey continues…’

The post also included a short video of him telling his 170,000 followers: “Hey everyone. I just wanted to let you know that I’m returning to General Hospital this summer as Lucky Spencer.”

“Super excited and can’t wait to dive in and see what happens in Port Charles. Excited to see Genie Francis, obviously, and so many others,” he continued.

‘I just wanted to thank all the fans over the years. Your persistence and love certainly played a role in all of this,” he admitted.

He also thanked executive producer Frank Valentini, “and everyone at ABC for welcoming me back,” saying he was “super excited” and “just sending a lot of love.”

“I guess I’ll see you all pretty soon,” Jackson concluded in his video message, which received more than 5,000 likes on Instagram alone.

Jackson won’t be the only alum returning to Port Charles, with another iconic GH character returning in August.

Craig played Morgan from 2012 to 2016, when his character was apparently killed with a car bomb.

Morgan eventually returned in the form of a “vision” that Maura West’s Ava saw in 2018, though no details were given about this upcoming return.
