Gen Z ‘cancel’ wildly popular makeup product – as beauty experts weigh in

Gen Z is at it again — and this time they’ve declared that you absolutely should not use concealer.

Instead, the trendy age group is opting for bronzer, as it promises to be a total game changer when it comes to your makeup look.

In a video posted to TikTok this summer, the user said Sierra Cannon explained that she doesn’t always like the brightening look that most under-eye concealers give, so sometimes she opts for bronzer.

She showed viewers how to create the look themselves, applying Saie’s Dew Bronze liquid bronzer under the eyes and on the lids and blending it in with a large powder brush.

“I’ve never been a fan of lighter concealers because I don’t think it flatters my features, so I usually go darker instead of lighter,” says Cannon, who has more than half a million followers on TikTok. “I literally glow.”

The content creator even has a follow up video She compared how the bronzer and concealer looked on each side of her face, leaving viewers in the comments divided on which looked better.

Mattie Lacey-Davidson, a London-based beauty therapist, also tried the bronzing hack after seeing Cannon’s video.

Lacey-Davidson tried a regular concealer on one side of her face and a bronzer on the other, but she admitted she couldn’t tell which looked better.

“I’m not really a tanned, sun-kissed, glowing girl, but if I was, and I actually don’t think that’s a good fit for me, would this work for me?” she asked viewers in the TikTok video.

The reactions were again divided. Some told the beautician that the bronzer made her “blue eyes pop,” while the concealer made her look “brighter” and “more awake.”

“I like the bronzer side. It might not always work depending on your skin tone (tan in the summer, maybe paler in the winter), but I think it looks great,” wrote one commenter.

Another noted: ‘The concealer brightens the whites of your eyes, making your face look brighter overall.

‘Bronzer makes your eyes bluer. So it depends on your goals.’

But if bronzer isn’t your thing, don’t worry. You’re still part of the cool generation, because other Gen Zers have completely eliminated the product from their makeup routines.

One TikTok user, Janet Floressaid she saw someone else make a video suggesting not to use concealer if you’re over 30 because it accentuates fine lines and wrinkles.

Flores followed the advice and indicated that she liked the haircut and would “never” use it again.

Make-up maker @Beautybybanda It is also not recommended to use concealer for a ‘natural makeup look.’

But is replacing your concealer with bronzer really that effective for hiding those dark circles under your eyes?

According to a makeup artist, using bronzer may not be the solution to your under-eye skin problems.

“If you’re trying to cover up dark circles, using bronzer can actually have the opposite effect and accentuate them,” says a New York City makeup artist Cat Mignano told DailyMail.com.

“But I’m open to wearing it under your concealer,” she added.

She admitted that the trend can actually make your face look ‘flatter’.

“Normally, a lighter shade of concealer under the eyes will add more depth to your face,” Mignano explains.

This can also help accentuate certain areas of the face, she said.

“While this look can be fun for selfies or everyday makeup, I wouldn’t recommend it for professional photography,” Mignano explains.

However, she does praise Gen Z’s creativity and fun when it comes to trying out different ways to wear makeup.

“They are quick to jump on trends and try new things,” the makeup artist noted.

‘Trends come and go, but if you find one that suits you, I say stick with it!’
