Gen Z Americans roast their English counterparts over ‘British makeup’ – so what does it mean?
Gen Z content creators are roasting their English counterparts over the way they do their glam on TikTok.
A viral video from the Greek content creator Vasia Tsanikidou pokes fun at the way British women do their make-up, while American commentators pointed out what they thought ‘British make-up’ meant.
Vasia shared a video of herself walking down the street in dark sunglasses and wrote: “Walking in London and realizing British makeup is not a TikTok joke.”
“The black eyebrows and white lips always shocked me, plus the brown foundation and white neck,” one person commented, echoing the “new” sound that played in the video.
Many American commentators said they were already familiar with ‘British make-up’ from watching reality shows like Love Island or Geordie Shore.

One woman compared British makeup to the Jersey Shore look of the early aughts, while another said it involved lots of lip filler and exaggerated eyebrows with a nude, heavily outlined lip.
“I’ve been watching TLC TV shows since I was a kid and yes, I knew about British makeup before TikTok even existed,” one commenter joked.
‘REAL. I didn’t realize how popular orange-toned foundation/bronzer was,” said another.
Some Brits were offended and one wrote: ‘Hey, this is so rude!’ to which another commenter responded, “rude is being orange.”
Plenty of American Gen Z influencers are also recreating what they believe is the British makeup look.
