‘I was traumatised’: Gemma Collins reveals she has PTSD after nearly losing her £1.3million Essex home and savings while her father was in hospital battling Covid-19

Gemma Collins has revealed she has post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrifying experience two years ago.

The Former The Only Way is Essex star, 41, revealed in an Instagram Live that she nearly lost her ‘life savings’ and bought her £1.3million dream home in Essex when the bank froze all her accounts.

Gemma said she was “traumatized” by the experience, which happened while her father Alan was in hospital battling Covid-19 and was close to “dying”.

Gemma went on Instagram Live with a friend named Andie who had a similar experience with frozen accounts.

“This happened to me two years ago. The shock, the shame, I couldn’t sleep, I felt sick, I felt like I was untrustworthy, like “am I a criminal?” said Gemma.

“You know what, the guy at the end of the phone, I was so upset, I cried on the phone, I said, ‘I’m going to lose my house, I’m going to lose my house!’ ‘

“They read from a script, no emotion, and say to you, ‘Go into the branch’.

‘I couldn’t see my father in the hospital. I went to the branch and the lady was very nice, I started to cry in the bank. She didn’t care.’

Gemma said she has PTSD from the experience.

What is PTSD?

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder caused by highly stressful, frightening, or distressing events.

People with PTSD often experience nightmares and flashbacks to the traumatic event and may experience insomnia and an inability to concentrate.

Symptoms are often severe enough to have a serious impact on the person’s daily life and can occur right after the traumatic event or years later.

PTSD is thought to affect about one in three people who have had a traumatic experience, and was first documented in World War I in soldiers with shell shock.

People who are concerned they have PTSD should see their GP, who can recommend a course of psychotherapy or antidepressants, the NHS says.

Combat Stress has a 24-hour veteran helpline, which can be reached on 0800 138 1619.

“I would have lost my house, I had my savings in that account, I would have been in the creek,” she said.

‘I never said it to anyone. I was going to go to the financial ombudsman, but my father was dying. I was buying a house which should have been a great experience.

“I was traumatized. I really had PTSD from that experience.”

Gemma, who is engaged to fiance Rami Hawash, celebrated her move into her dream home in Essex early last year.

The bubbly blonde has taken up residence in a massive five-bedroom property converted from a barn, complete with an acre of land and four en-suite bathrooms.

She also previously revealed that her father was finally on the road to recovery after battling Covid, and was thrilled to hear that her home purchase had finally worked.

In her podcast, she said, “When I took my dad to see the house, he absolutely loved it.

“I told him at the hospital Dad that the whole house was searched and all I see is lights in his eyes.”

She then added: I’m so excited about it. All in all it has been a positive positive week for me.’
