Sending quick replies in Gmail is about to get a lot smarter, thanks to a new integration with Google’s Gemini AI platform.
The email provider has announced that its Smart Replies, which offer users a selection of pre-written replies that can be quickly selected and sent, will now be powered by Gemini.
The AI tool can pull information from your inbox and other Google Workspace apps to provide a fuller, more informative response, saving users time and stress looking up essential details or data.
Smart Replies get smarter in Gmail
In a Google Workspace updates blog post In announcing the update, Google noted that users often need to respond to an email with more details, especially if it’s a professional or business message.
Gemini will now provide “more detailed responses to fully reflect the intent of your message,” the company says, with the tool saving time and making inbox management easier, especially on a mobile device or on the go.
After users select to reply to a message, they will see several reply options at the bottom of their screen, which now analyze the entire contents of the email thread to provide more detailed, richer responses.
Users can hover over each answer to quickly preview the text, then select the answer that best suits the situation. You can edit the prewritten message if necessary or send it immediately.
Anyone who wants to use the feature must make sure Smart Features & Personalization is turned on in Gmail and have a Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, or Education Premium account, or are signed in to Google One AI Premium.
